Vinted hagglers

selling something for £3 and someone has put an offer of £2.80? Who’s quibbling over 20p? I have had a few like this now and it’s driving me crazy! More so than the ridiculous ones of an item listed for £20 and they offer 5.

Its not possible to offer £5 on a £20 item. Vinted has a limit of offering 40% of the listed price.

I agree with you but also, if 20p doesn't matter then why do you care?!

Sparklesocks · 15/03/2024 12:49

I think it’s the same old thing, Vinted is just the newest platform for it 😄 I used to do boot sales and people would haggle 20-30p then too. Really go for it! Some people just like to feel like they’ve got themselves a deal even if it’s a tiny discount.

I think a lot of Vinted users do set their prices a bit higher expecting haggling/offers so it’s quite common for some bartering but you can always decline it. Their fees have gone up recently too. I have offered a few pound off before because taking into account fees/postage it all adds up, so helps if the item is a bit cheaper. As a seller I’ve had some proper piss taking offers too though!

I suppose if you said ‘it’s only 20p’ they’d reply exactly, so why not just accept 😁

It's not just vinted. On eBay if I sell something fixed price on buy it now and don't have a button for offers, people just private message instead asking if I'd consider £2 less. When I explain that I already included the cost of postage, packaging, and eBay listing fees in the price so am not actually getting the amount on the listing, they just don't reply.

Ialwaystry · 15/03/2024 12:51

Just do what I do and put 50p to a £1 higher than you'd reasonably want.
People just like a bargain and to buy it for cheaper than its going for..

I was just plucking an random figure out of the air - but you know what I mean a significant reduction

I do usually accept for the sake of 20p but it drives me up the wall.

perhaps I will just put my prices up a little in anticipation of haggling

I know what you mean but by the time you’ve added p&p and the buyer protection a £2 item is maybe £6 so I guess every penny counts sometimes.

Exactly,I posted something for £5, they offered me £4. It's an item I have no use for, hence why I put it on vinted, so really £4 is better than hoarding an item for which I have no use that will ultimately be donated or binned ..

I have done it a couple of times to try include buyer fee. So if item is £3 I might try £2.50 so then once the item and buyer fee included I end up paying around £3 (obviously random numbers but you get the idea)

fantasmasgoria1 · 15/03/2024 16:14

I wanted £15 for an item I just sold. I listed it for £18 so there was a bit of leeway for a person to knock it down and sure enough someone offered £15 for it within an hour.
