To go back to bed after school drop off

WalKat · 15/03/2024 09:01

I am not a morning person.
I just do better in the evenings, I have more energy then.
I work so only do 2 school drop off per week, the other days i drag myself to work at 7am and DH does it.
my default setting would probably be 10am if I was left without an alarm.

Anyway is it unreasonable to go back to bed for a nap after school drop off?

Does anyone do it?

Make me feel better please. Or is this the epitome of laziness?

Why does it matter what anyone else thinks of this?

Snowpaw · 15/03/2024 09:04

If you're knackered and don't have anything else to do I don't see the harm - do what you need to do to survive!

However. I used to consider myself an "evening person" but really what I was doing was craving the child-free time in the evenings and then watching Netflix shows and staying up late to get that alone time, and then finding it really hard to get out of bed in the mornings. I knocked it on the head and started going to bed at 9pm every night (DP chooses what we watch from 7-8pm and I choose from 8-9pm, then bed) and do you know, its transformed my life and I naturally wake up with no alarm now and feel fine in the mornings now. I think its improved my immune system too, getting more sleep.

Do it. Just set an alarm so you don't lose the whole morning/day.

AlltheFs · 15/03/2024 09:09

I sometimes do after nursery run.
I was recovering from an illness and was still so tired that I dropped DD off at 7.45 (it’s just round the corner) and was back in bed 8-10. Then I worked until 5pm pick up.

Those 2 hours with an empty house made all the difference. I sometimes do it now if I have a migraine brewing as I can sometimes head them off with pills and sleep.

I love a post drop off nap, super early work starts 3-4 days a week, bonus nap on the 5th day. A wee power snooze makes the rest of the day so much better!

This could very well be my problem 😊

It doesn't matter really, I'm still gonna do it 😂

You’re an adult, you can sleep whenever you want as long as it doesn’t mean you’re letting other people down.

TheFabledSnake · 15/03/2024 09:17

I nap like it's going out of style. I often go back to bed after the school run!

RightOnTheEdge · 15/03/2024 09:19

YANBU.
You can do whatever you want. It's not affecting anyone else.

TheFlakyPoster · 15/03/2024 09:46

I have a nap most days and I don't have kids or anyone else to clean up after. I work hard and then feel residually a bit knackered on my days off. You're an adult, if you want to have a nap have a nap. It's not lazy it's rest. It is allowed!

Saymyname28 · 15/03/2024 09:57

So long as you're still pulling your weight housework wise then do as you please

kcchiefette · 15/03/2024 09:58

I don't see anything wrong with this.

I work 8am-5pm but I often use my lunch hour to go for a nap to catch up on sleep.

I find it difficult getting in my 8 hours at night so it allows me to catch up and refresh before picking DS up from school.

LakieLady · 15/03/2024 10:01

Go for it!

Nothing like a nice nap to recharge the batteries imo.

CharlotteBog · 15/03/2024 11:14

I don't nap after the school run, but once DS2 is out of the door at 8.10am I make a cuppa and drink it in peace in bed before starting my day.
I WFH so can still be at my desk in good time and anyway, we have very flexible working hours.
I've done my years of being at the office at 8.15am having got me and baby/toddler up and out and to nursery. It sometimes felt like I'd done a days work before I even started my actual paid job!

As long as you get whatever needs to be done, done then it's all OK, isn't it.

KatyN · 15/03/2024 11:17

We have a mate who regularly does that. The other week I 'did a Michelle' and it was AMAZING

You do the school run, go back to bed and set your alarm for 2:30 for pick up.

Whatthefrance2024 · 15/03/2024 11:21

Not UR at all, enjoy!

Desecratedcoconut · 15/03/2024 11:33

The only time I was having naps after the school run was when I had and was recovering from pneumonia.

blackheartsgirl · 15/03/2024 12:05

i nap in the middle of the day quite often. I do split hours so 7 til 1030. Then 3 till 6. .

i don’t sleep that well at night so an hour or two in the day is brilliant for me

Haha that sounds absolutely amazing!!
I quite often have an hour or two but today it's been more like that. Maybe coming down with something but could just be that life is just exhausting!!

ASmokeyEyeAndARedLip · 15/03/2024 16:17

I take my DP to his HGV very early on a Monday - think
4-30am, meaning getting up at 3-30am.
Wild horses wouldn’t get between me and the bed when I get back home!!
Naps are good for you!!

RB2025 · 21/01/2025 12:51

If we're tired then we need rest. I'm not sure why as adults we've come to somehow think getting some extra rest is lazy? If you're still getting eberything done, and it's not like you're sleeping while you're kids are home, and awake then why does it bother other people ople so much? If it does it's typically because they're upset they don't have that opportunity. Take the extra rest! Sometimes it is needed!
