To hate being spoken to like i'm a child?

It's a petty and small annoyance, but yes, it annoyed me.

My mom (75, lives with me) told me, quite seriously yesterday, that i was 'naughty' for not eating breakfast and having an early lunch instead.

What kind of grown adult uses that kind of language to another grown adult?

anyone else have parents that still speak to them like that?

YANBU. Tell her you will decide what you eat in your own home.

You need to be firm on pushing back otherwise it will get unbearable.

Does she have her own annex?

I’m presuming if you are an adult who chose to have their mum living with you, you get on well (or you wouldn’t have done!).

Is this an isolated comment? How long has she lived with you? Was it said kindly? How did you respond?

My MIL says stuff like this to me when she comes to stay (her visits are months rather than weeks) and it's not just irritating, it's hurtful. It's like she has no interest in me as an adult or an individual, I'm just a silly little girl who needs constant reminding of how to carry out the most basic daily activities in life correctly. I don't have any advice I'm afraid, but I just want to give you some validation that your feelings of annoyance are totally reasonable.

Not my parents but some strangers decide to talk down to me when they find out that I'm autistic. With an IQ of 146, it's both amusing and irritating in equal measure. Some people hear 'autistic' and just make a huge leap that that must also equal a learning/intellectual disability 🙄

However old you are, you’ll always be your mum’s baby. When mine visits / I visit her she reminds me to wear a warm coat, drink enough water, and look properly when I cross the road. I’ve been successfully ambulating myself around since I left home almost 20 years ago but actually, there are few enough people in life who care quite so much about us being healthy and safe and well, so I’ll take it.
