Kids TV

Is it me, or was Kids’ TV better when I was young? It just was wasn’t it? Or is old age upon me and I’m starting wittering on about what things were like “in my day…”?
The late 80s/early 90s were surely a golden age for children’s programs.
Nostalgia kicking in, remembering shows like:
Maid Marian
Bodger and badger
Roland rat
80 Days around the world (rewatched this with mine, and it still stands up)
Dogtanian
Trapdoor
Dungeons and dragons
Count duckula
Tony Hart/morph
Round the bend
Round the twist
Why don’t you
The really wild show
And then all the Saturday morning TV
Also some spooky mystery drama series I can’t remember the names fof but there was one involving a ghost horse
Byker grove!
Grange Hill! Grange blimmin’ hill!

Any I’ve missed?

I mean I’ve enjoyed watching some of the current ones with my kids but they seem less memorable or impactful. An awful lot of it’s from the US or quite generic and bland, whereas the UK had more cultural clout/independence back then. Is it because I’m watching it though adult eyes? Maybe there’s more choice now but I genuinely think the old shows were objectively better in terms of quality and production values. Am I wrong? Or if I watched them would they actually be a bit shit? Maybe there’s better stuff now and I don’t watch/appreciate it enough. I think some of it’s good but it’s all a bit safe and wholesome and a bit boring. And they all come out with money grabbing shit plastic toys to boot! If you ask me we didn’t know we had it so good! And all in one place! Or two places, BBC & ITV, not across 15 channels/subscriptions/streaming sites.

I loved Art Attack and Animals of Farthing Wood.

We don't have television so I stream programmes for my son and he mostly watches the original Postman Pat, Pingu, Old Bear Stories and Spot the Dog which is all very nostalgic for me.

Just no. You missed the 60's and 70's.

Children of the Stones.

You're remembering the amazement you felt about those shows when you were a child. It's nostalgia.

I remember some great programmes when I was a kid, but I can also sit and enjoy Paw Patrol or Spidey and his Amazing Friends with my kids. Some of the newer movies are great too (Moana, Encanto, Brave).

Peppa Pig can get in the bin though

Looking at your list, I'm guessing we're the same age. You missed The Pink Windmill with Rod Hull and Emu.
And Raggy Dolls.
DS has watched bits of those.
Oh and Fraggle Rock.

I think the current generations list will include
Bluey
Number / Alpha blocks
Hey Dugee
A load of YouTubers

Raggy dolls, yes! and fragile rock’s epic theme tune! I actually don’t remember the pink Windmill though
