To think he shouldn’t have left it all

My partner is doing night shifts atm, so he is tired which I get. We have two young DC, and I’m working full time so I’m shattered as well. I had a random day off as had leave to take and took the DC out to see my family, he told me we had a supermarket delivery coming today but it was coming when I was out this morning so he was gonna wait for it to come before going bed.

I’ve come home and he’s left it all over the floor behind our front door so I’ve got in and pushed into piles of food, even dairy products which have been sitting out for 6 hours.

i get he’s tired and he wanted to go sleep but seriously….I'm fuming he’s left it for me to do or at least could have left it in a tidy way/away from front door/put dairy products away.

aibu to think it’s not on to just leave a food delivery everywhere or cut him slack because he did a night shift?

It seems odd that he (or you) ordered a supermarket shop to be delivered at a time that was super inconvenient for it to be taken in. Had you/he ordered it with the expectation that you'd be there to take it in and then you had a last minute change of plans, leaving him in the lurch? If that was the case, did you actually check with him that he was OK to stay up and take it in before changing your plans?

In any case, I'd certainly have put any fridge or freezer stuff away as I'd not have wanted it to spoil, but I might well leave the other stuff out for the other person to put away if it was a job they were supposed to have been doing in the first place and it was in the middle of my sleeping time..

Another apologist for a lazy selfish man. There are so many of you.

I would have hit the roof. This is unacceptable.

Nope, not at all. Just clarifying as it seems really odd, to the point of not very believable, that someone would order a food delivery at a time where he was supposed to be sleeping and the other adult in the house was not going to be in. Surely checking that someone was available to accept the delivery is one of the vital parts of doing an online shop? Since the OP has clarified that he did indeed book a slot at a time when he expected that no-one would sensibly be able to receive it, then I can only presume he's an idiot (which to be fair is backed up by leaving perishable items out at room temperature for several hours.)

He's above putting groceries away

That's your job

tiptoetipfinger · 13/03/2024 20:25

Did you not chuck it away after 6 hrs though? Or rather, you should have just left it out for him to sort.

I can not imagine my dh ever doing this.

BobbyBiscuits · 13/03/2024 20:28

I would tell him he needs to go to the shop tomorrow and replace the spoiled fridge/freezer items. How annoying that he did this.
I always look through and put away the delivery as soon as it arrives. I guess I often have a treat I'm desperate for so it makes the packing away quite fun for me. Lol sad maybe?

hellsBells246 · 13/03/2024 23:43

Absolute bellend. He was in when the shop arrived, but he left in it on the floor?? Even the fridge stuff???

I'd bin the fridge stuff

Then bin him too.

He's an idiot.

Some advice here is really geared in the direction of 'how to treat your child', rather than 'how to have a successful relationship'.
