AIBU to just want my car fixed ?

Long story short

a friend of mine was over in mid December and was drinking with a few others . She told me she had no car insurance as she couldn’t afford it I was flabbergasted an told her how awful it was ( in great detail)

later in the night we was leaving for a taxi she insisted on moving her car to her house and getting a cab from there . I disagreed strongly as did everyone else but she got into her car anyway .

next thing you know BANG she’s reversed into a car … my car !

it took over two months to get the money for her to fix the bumper however since then due to her taking so long other issues have occurred . The light was knocked out of place so water got into it and now it’s fried all my lights I don’t have any proper lights or indicators.

I have got a quote to repair of £1600 which she is saying she cannot afford . She said her local garage might do a payment plan but had no response .

i have said I can lend the money to be paid over three instalments but she’s said she cannot afford that .

I just don’t know what to do … she has said she can afford £150 a month which is just ridiculous

what shall I do ? Shall I get the money to repair it myself and hope she pays me back . I have asked her to call her garage tomorrow but tbh it’s quite ropey and really far away . they took days and days longer than they said they would to fix her car and I cannot be without it for long . The garage I got the quote from is mine very reputable and have used them for a long time .

she cannot take out any credit for it she has said she has bad credit and cannot lend off family.

any suggestions ?

Can you contact your insurance and ask them what to do?

Unfriend her and helpfully let the DVLA know that she’s driving uninsured

You should have reported it when it happened. Drunk driving, and driving uninsured. she sounds a delight...

I'd suck it up and get it fixed yourself if you have the money, as it's only getting worse. But I would consider small claims court etc and I would end the friendship

You should always report it to your own insurance these rapid to deal with this the right way. She has no intention of paying you back unless you go to the small claims court - I’d recommend you do this.

If I contact my insurance 1) they will just add a note in my file which will impact my premiums for the next six years ( this happened before when an un insured driver hit me even though he was caught by police as he drove off it added hundreds to my file ) 2) it happened months ago and because I have had the bodywork done they will not pay out for the claim as if I wanted to claim they would need to know immediately.

i won’t be going via my own insurance or telling them I have about 7 years no claims now and i don’t want to loose that it will cost me thousands over the years sorting that back out
