Constant 'I wants' at my wits end

My 2 year DS doesn't seem to have much personality other then demanding 'I want'

Makes up every morning screaming and crying for me to come get him. My older ds would happily sing to himself and be full of smiles in the morning. Then it begins 'i want boobie' 'i want to go downstairs' 'i want to sit on counter' 'i want to butter toast' 'i want to watch tv' 'i want to look phone' 'i want snack' 'i want to be carried'

If I say no (nicely) to any of his requests he screams, hits, cries, stomps his fit, throws something.

I have an older ds and don't remember it being like this. Yes there were requests/demands but a lot of joy, reading books, playing and kisses and cuddles in between.

Younger ds is just so dare I say it.... A bit miserable.
Any words of wisdom or support? I hoped he would cheer up a bit by now but it doesn't seem to be happening. Feeling deflated.

Does distraction work? So “I want to watch tv”, if instead of ’no’ you said ‘I’ve got a brilliant game to play instead’, in an excited voice, and you led him off to do something else, how would that go down?
DS was awful, the art of distraction was a game changer for everything from brushing teeth, getting dressed to having a snack. I had to make everything seem ‘fun’ and like his idea. He did get better -thankfully!
