To be amused at how the FERVENTLY "worried" anti-Biden peops have ignored SOTU, and the response?

Gone predictably quiet over here.

Perhaps seeing Biden present an impassioned, articulate, positive, and forward thinking, SOTU has y'all... tongue-tied?

Agree, OP Biden’s SOTU speech was a success. Just reading today about how the US is doing really well under Biden, healthy economy, employment booming, there is criticism about his approach to Gaza, but this is something we in the UK can only dream of right now and yet the result of the election could throw all this away for what amounts to an incoherent cult leader who will be a dangerous liability for the world.

"Let Biden be Biden."

5 second clips of his "gaffes" are nonsensical. He's old, yes, but he's sharp, and, most importantly, he's had a long political career and the knowledge that comes with that, AND is a very decent human being, in SHARP contrast with the Republican nominee.

The GAZA criticism is fueled by both Russia and China on TikTok.

It's BOGGLING to me that people fall for it - as though these "influencers" could come up with a better solution to a historical geo-political problem with a video rant. SHAMEFULLY ignorant, especially considering what Trump would do.

I'm American. I've never cared about the State of the Union address. It's not unlikely speeches given by British politicians taking credit often for things that have little to do what they did or the tearing apart parties do of each other not surprising in the response. SO yeah, YABU to be so amused that people don't care about it.

You're also unreasonable for not seeing that at this point in the US election cycle, we shouldn't be comparing him Biden to the Republicans or any other US political party or any 'influencers', we're meant to be comparing him to other Democrat options. We're meant to be asking 'Is this the best person for the Democrats to put forward?'.

I wouldn't say I'm anti-Biden, but I was very disappointed in the Democrat Party push for him in 2020 well before the primaries. He was the the safe for center-right option with very deep pockets - that's why all of our options are over retirement age, they've had the time get the wealth needed to be supported to run. People want to use 'oh they've had a long career' - but has that career been any good? Do we want the same politicians who have been getting us into the same mess for decades?

I don't think Biden comes across as sharp, I think he comes across - and has throughout much of his long career - like a weathervane, happy to blow in whatever direction the mood is going in. He has been part of many awful political choices over the decades. While much of the issues of the US in the last four years haven't been his fault, he continues to be lead around by his party rather than being a leader. Of course he's better than pundits, that doesn't mean Biden's the best the Democrats to lead.

The Democrats have far better potential options, not that they'd be allowed to run or could afford to do so. The Republicans also have a range of options, but who is allowed to run has nothing to do with skill or the quality of their careers, and everything to do with who can get the financing together far before getting the party to recognise them. We have bigger problems that people ignoring the SOTU that few outside of politics care about.

Please elaborate about who would have been a better Democrat than Biden in 2020 AND now.

I WOULD say you're anti-Biden, and most probably, a bitter Berner, or -worse- some other not-remotely-electable fringe supporter for nefarious purposes.

But, in case I'm mistaken, list your "better" choices here - so they can be subject to the same scrutiny.

Your deliberately vague complaining is both intellectually weak, and very telling.

SAY THEIR NAMES... if you dare. :)

@FrannieSaid yes but we've had the budget this week so people here are more interested in that. I think if it had been at a different time you might have the 300+ comments but we are gearing up for our own election now and I honestly don't think people see the US presidency as that important anymore.

Ok, I've ventured back, after giving what I knew would be an absolute SHIT SHOW, when Kate posted a photo, a bit of time. 😂

Anyway here's this:

But it was a great presentation. He did a great job, and has done a great job for the past 3 years. Certainly better than Whoop-Dee-Doo did. Other nations really hope Biden gets reelected. They're scared that the other guy will sell them out.
He got a Russian backed insurance company to pay his bond in his first court case. That's scary.

Totally agree - that bond is a HUGE security risk - though the dimwit just himself could hardly be more manipulatable, and dangerous.

We've also got , among all the other suspect Supreme Court Justices, one who was CLEARLY bought. Every debt he had, his house, his cars... all went ~POOF~.

He's also an ignorant, vulgar, frathole, and I still SEETHE remembering his "confirmation"hearing, where he screamed and fake cried. Also - watch how Chuck Fucking Grassley just RAN OVER the fact they document dumped the night before. I'M MAD ALL OVER AGAIN, GODDAMMIT. :D Ugh, I'll link.

It's going to be painful, because he is EVERY INSANELY OVER PRIVILEGED GUY under pressure you've ever had the displeasure to encounter, and I HOPE (can't watch again) that you get the spectacle of Lindsey Graham, literally SCREECHING that he would get back at Democrats at the end. It was a FUCKING SHIT SHOW, and the best argument against women being "too emotional" to lead ever.

STILL, he's on the Court, godammit.

Yabu to use so many capital letters, op. It makes you sound like a demagogue running for president.

Thank you SO MUCH for your thoughts. What an ABSOLUTELY STELLAR addition they are to this thread.

Indeed, without PEOPLE LIKE YOU chiming in to non-contribute, this would hardly even BE Mumsnet, WOULD IT? :)

I am interested in what’s going on to a degree, eg I’ll listen to commentary on US politics on the radio when it comes up, but I didn’t watch this address

Rikitiki78 · 22/07/2024 22:14

Trump has a tremendous following here. The day after Biden came in we started going downhill. Inflation, high gas prices, the border crises are what Joe Biden gave us and God forbid, Kamala….mind numbing.

Hahaha… I had forgotten about this thread 🤣 @Rikitiki78

I’m sorry to say I still have not successfully hosted a “Weird and Dystopian Gathering” at least I know of.

State of the union…

Formality. The practice arises from a duty of the president under the State of the Union Clause of the U.S. Constitution: He shall from time to time give to the Congress information of the State of the Union and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient.
