Honest answers please, I know I should report, but I don't know if there is any point. And if it would make the situation worse for the children involved, who, I think, are totally unaware why they are always getting in to rouble. I don't have proof, just suspicions. I am fairly sure thee children are not being treated fairly. And I think the reason is their ethnic origins,

I suppose I do want to report, but don't have the nerve to. The fallout would mostly be on me, I am sure. I have reported staff before, in other schools, and it has never gone well

Well, if you don't have proof, what exactly are you going to report?

Walkingwithdinosaurs · 07/03/2024 22:41

I think you have a duty of care to report it once you have evidence otherwise it won’t be taken seriously. I do however see your point, it never really ends well for the whistleblower.

I am currently dealing with similar but it’s all adults and it’s so horrible to listen to. Needless to say management witness it and do nothing!

Thanks for your support. Its helpful to see other people understand the situation.

You obviously have a duty of care to these children but you do need to be sure as the accusations will have effect as they should. What has aroused your suspicions here? Fair play for standing up to this.

You need to report

A key principle of safeguarding is to report, however small

If the piece of information you are holding on its own is in itself not an issue then it is not an issue, unless it fits together with a few others to start making a jigsaw.

As you never know whether there are other jigsaw pieces or you just have a scrap, you always need to report.

Do you work in a school?

Who on earth is saying you are being unreasonable. Any suspicion should be reported even if no proof so that it can at least be brought to the attention of those higher up.

If you have seen something that gives you cause for concern, I'd query it directly with the perpetrator. There may be circumstances you are unaware of. And you can do it in a way that doesn't apportion blame, just curious.

If I saw a second incident or clear evidence of racism, I'd then report both incidents at the same time.
