To think my colleague was useless

Work in an environment with unwell and also high risk behaviours. Colleague saw patient x do a risky behaviour. We went to deal with this and check the well being of the person. To which he then said this needs more then checking every 15 mins then left me with them and spoke to someone about the patient. Surely this isn’t very clear.

You're right, this isn't very clear 🤔

Eh???

When you say they went to speak to someone about the patient, was it just to have a gossip or to tell them they believe 15 mins between checks is too long?

On the vague outline you've given, it doesn't seem that on the face of it they were useless. They saw the risky behaviour (not you), and went with you to deal with it. They then assessed the patient probably needed more frequent checks...and presumably went off to speak to someone about it.

The only thing that seems unclear is if they wanted you to stay with the patient until they returned...so perhaps they could have explained better?

Honestly I’m at an utter loss for this country’s education system.

This is pure word salad.

Your colleague observed a situation developing so you and they went to heal the person in difficulty.

The colleague then said that more frequent checks needed to be implemented, so went to find another team member to discuss this.

Have I understood correctly?

What is it that you think your colleague did wrong?

penjil · 08/03/2024 00:04

Surely where you work will have regulations and rules regarding the observations of individual patients and their needs.

If 15 minutes intervals aren't enough, then you need to raise that with the senior care teams and see if it can't be increased.

Although, to be honest, if someone needs checking on more than once every 15 minutes, then they may as well be on 24/7 guard. Which sounds extreme.

Less than professional to come on a platform to ask strangers on the internet about a work related, sensitive situation that you know, if you were professional, needs discussion within a work environment with colleagues.

What on Earth are you doing and what on Earth are you on about?

Oh heck... Difficult to understand what you mean unless I guess you know the job.
What did your colleague do wrong?
