Booking Annual Leave

I work all year round in a school office 4 of us all of us work all year round. Every single time I go to book leave I am met with..I need that day to WFH as I have medical appointment or I need to WFH that day as my parent/uncle/ goldfish needs my attention.

I check their diaries and book when they say there in work and the moment I send my leave request it's like no no no and er no,

or I book and it's agreed and then I get - sorry I HAVE to have x day off for my cat to have his eyelashes tinted.

or
do you need a Monday because if your not here I have to cover your lunch work - fucking cover it without the moaning

the others can WFH and book leave without so much as a whimper. 3 of us are the same grade. Manager and one same grade as me are the moaners

Well that’s not fair especially the days you’ve already had authorised. They sound cliquey tbh.

I'd make a big fuss of this if it happened often. I'd go above my manager if she was the problem too.

If they've not booked it off, it's tough shit for them.

Who approves your leave? Your manager? Why are you asking your colleagues? Do they also seek your permission?

Firefightress1 · 07/03/2024 20:23

Hell no! I used to get the guilt trip over weekend and public holidays/xmas as I don't have kids but it was my turn to be off! I still have a life. First come first served!

I've had so many jobs like this, the only thing that works is having a different job.

waterlellon · 07/03/2024 20:47

Speak to your manager - it's not on. Get them to ask any queries regarding booking to them

dhxxx · 07/03/2024 21:20

No this is not normal and they shouldn't be dictating to this extent. why does you being off affect them WFH? How is that fair

Dotdashdottinghell · 07/03/2024 21:43

I'd ask your manger via email to provide you with the leave policy, as there is clearly a misunderstanding. I'd then question every single incidence of it not being followed, in writing. I'd tell her I felt bullied and would be contacting my union.

If they're WFH they should be working as normal. Why is that a reason for you not to take holiday?
