Please calm me, anxious mu
At around 3, when my 5 year old was getting in the car, the wind blew hard as I was helping her and the car door hit her head. It looked quite hard and she cried a lot. It has a small bump there and she says tender to touch. She was ok afterwards, but half an hour ago said she had tummy ache and has just vomited and is now lay down looking pale. She v v rarely vomits. There is lots going around, but I’m getting really an iI’d it could be connected to her head?
Please can anyone advise? 🙏

Another one saying A&E. DS was hit in the face with a football and fell back hitting his head on the ground. He vomited after and I took him to A&E. He’s got ADHD and absolutely refused to wait the hours and hours we were told it would be. Triage nurse told him he absolutely had to wait as to see a dr as they suspected concussion and he ended up having a CT scan to check for bleeds. There was no bleeding but he wasn’t right for about a week after.

CloseEncountersOfTheTurdKind · 07/03/2024 19:07

We've twice taken children to a&e who had hit their heads and vomited and both times were told its only a concern if they vomit three or more times.

HeadsShouldersTitsandArse · 07/03/2024 19:08

Take her to get checked. I took my boy when he ran into a hard chair and had a great big egg come up on his head. He was sick a ciuple
hours later twice in his bed, about 30 minutes apart.

Peads said nothing to worry about and that because he had only been sick once within 15 minutes then it was likely something else. But they said it was absolutely the right thing to do to bring him in after a head bump then sick, as you never know.

good luck, I hope she’s feeling better soon!

Rainraingoawayagainandagain · 08/03/2024 09:27

Thank you everyone 🙏
We were in A&E until 10.30 last night, they decided not to do a CT scan due to age/risks etc. She was sick around 3 times in total. They gave her sickness medicine and electrolytes
She perked up after that but was very tired.
She slept on the way home and until 8.30 this morning, which is later for her. She was weepy a bit this morn and tired and her temp is 37.9, should I be worried?
They said to bring her back if she vomits a lot again, is very sleepy or crying a lot

It's an awful worry, I would maybe ring them and ask them for some advice. Hope she is feeling better soon.

Was she seen by paeds? If so have you got open access to return to them?

Rainraingoawayagainandagain · 08/03/2024 10:17

She was seen by paediatricians, they said to bring her back if any of the above signs. She’s sleeping now but I’m so worried, is that just normal as she’s been ill and was home and asleep or should I be more worried

My DS suffered concussion but is older (16) so was able to really verbalise how he felt. He described it as a week long hangover! I’m sure she’ll be fine but if you’re worried I wouldn’t hesitate to take her back if that’s what they suggested x

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 08/03/2024 10:33

I've had this twice, once with each child. Once was a bug but once was concussion. The concussion had other symptoms (extreme sleepiness) as well. Hospital will likely just observe, even where concussion was clear they were very reluctant to do a scan due to the radiation and only did so after a few hours of no improvement.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 08/03/2024 10:34

They said take her back if she's very sleepy, and she's slept for longer than usual overnight and is asleep again now?

I'd take her back.

Rainraingoawayagainandagain · 08/03/2024 10:38

@GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut Shes not slept for longer than usual overnight, we were out of the place probably closer to 11pm
She nodded off in the car on way home and and woke at 8.30 this morn, so missing around two hours sleep of her average nights sleep. She fell asleep now, just before 10, temp is 37.9, says has a bit of a headache and can’t explain how she feels

OP you’re clearly still worried. Why don’t you take her back in for a check? No one is going to blame you for taking your child in. I’ve always been told by the hospital that they’re always happy to see little ones. And mama knows best so if you’re still worried they’ll listen to you.

HereForTheFreeLunch · 08/03/2024 13:49

For the sleeping, it used to be ou can check by calling her name or gently touching her arm.

Even if she doesn't wake up, she should respond. Stir or go hmmm or something. Then it means she's just sleeping and you can let her sleep.

Did they say anything like this? If you do take her back you can ask them.

Hmnnnnn · 08/03/2024 13:53

Have you taken daughter back to AE . Hope all is well.

Clearinguptheclutter · 08/03/2024 13:55

hope you took her back OP, or at least got in with a gp.

cerisepanther73 · 08/03/2024 13:55

@Rainraingoawayagainandagain

Vist the Hospital straight away the sooner the better...

Topjoe19 · 08/03/2024 14:00

Don't doubt yourself. Take her back. You won't be able to stop worrying otherwise. Hope all is ok

penguinbiscuits · 08/03/2024 14:04

I had that when I was 7 years old.
I spent two weeks in hospital being monitored then discharged.
No MRIs back then, I do wonder at times how did they not even do any sort of a scan.

penguinbiscuits · 08/03/2024 14:05

Sorry forgot to mention, yes mine was a concussion.
I still remember the awful pain even 30 years later.

BigBreaths · 08/03/2024 14:06

Do you get a high temp with a concussion? Doesn't that make it more likely to be a coincidental bug? Note - I am not a doctor.

Hillarious · 08/03/2024 14:09

I dropped my one year old on a concrete floor when I fell over. He vomited. I had a nasty gash on my chin. We went to A&E. He was x-rayed and kept in overnight to be observed. Fractured skull, but the medics were very dismissive (in a way that was reassuring to me), said he was fine and that he'd mend quicker than my chin would. He was indeed fine, though is now a bit bonkers, which he himself blames on the fact that I dropped him when he was a baby.

Rainraingoawayagainandagain · 08/03/2024 19:14

Thanks everyone, I took her back
They ended up doing a ct scan, not over the moon about that and worried about that now. But the scan was clear and showed all ok
It’s just the way Dd was looking, just straight ahead and no real responses or energy at all, just so very unlike her and not seen her like that before. Dr came to check her again after I told her this and seems to think she might get more sick (bug wise etc) and it could be on its way, she just couldn’t really say and said to still observe her, drink lots etc
So Dd is in bed now and will see how she is tomorrow. So relieved it wasn’t related to the head injury 🙏
