I urgently need soe advice. Ive had throbbing tooth on and offf for a few days. Saw dentist on an emergencyc appointment. Could not get to see my own dentist so saw someone else at the practice. Tooth got xray. Dentist said no sign of infection. Gave me antibiotics anyway. Ive finished them today and tooth is still throbbing on and off so the antibiotics have been useless. I cannot eat or drink anything hot because it sets off the throbbing. It goes on for about 3 minutes then stops.

I have a follow up appointment in 3 wees time. Under the circumstances I thnk I should bring the appointment forward. I also want a secnd opinion because I want an opinon and the dentist I saw did not seem to know what was going on with the tooth. That does not fill me with very much confidence with this dentist whom I have never seen before. My own dentist is unavailable and fully booked. I do not feel confident seeing this dentist again

Have you tried sensodyne, or salt water rinsing?

I'd definitely get a second opinion and go to a emergency dentist if needed.
I had this once. Absolute agony with a tooth. They did an xray and all looked fine. I went back a couple of days later and the tooth almost feel out in to his hand. It was completely rotten! Apparently the decay was in an awkward position (at the side of the tooth, next to another tooth) that didn't show up on the xray and he couldn't see by looking at it. He was extremely apologetic and reimbursed me.

Yes you are right. I dont think my tooth will fall out but there is definately something wrong. I will phone up tomorrow. I do not want to see this dentist again. She is very pleasant but when I spoke to her over the phone and told her it is not better all she said was hang on until your next appointment. Usually thay say come in. I think it was because I said I was not in agony which am not but nevertheless the ver fact that it still throbs after a full course of antibiotics s an issue of concern

I floss every tooth thoroughly and brush thoroughly with an electric toothbrush. I never used to regularly floss but now I do. Floss before brushing is recommended. I floss for 2 minutes (1 minute lower and 1 minute upper) and do the same with the electric toothbrush.

Can you ring 111? Tell them the pain is awful and they should get you an emergency appointment somewhere. Mine always have when my dentist wouldn't see me and I've suffered awful with my teeth

No because I belong to a dental practice which has 6 dentists and can see any one of the on an emergency basis. If I go through 111, they will send me somewhere as a private patient and I will have to pay thrugh the nose for the examination whereas I am an NHS patient and can see anyone at my own surgery under the NHS for free unless they do some treatment.

Also I am not in awful pain. It is just slightly throbbing but enough to tell me that there is something wrong with it and it needs attention sooner rather than later because for all I know it may get worse if left and my next scheduled appointment at my own dental practice to review the tooth is in 2 and a half weeks time which is too long under the circumstances.

I have to sleep elevated because laying down brings on the trobbing. I do not want to have to carry on like this until my next appointment even if it does not get any worse
