To eat some foods in a very particular order

Aibu or does anyone else do this. I always eat toast in the exact same order - bite off and eat the corners first, then bite off the remaining crusts then the middle bit last, with a sip of coffee inbetween each bite. Is this weird or does anyone else have a specific way they eat certain foods?

Mars bars nibble the chocolate off the ends and sides, then eat the mousse bit then the long strip of toffee last
twixes biscuit first then toffee
cream eggs bite off the top slurp the centre out and then eat the egg
jaffa cakes as above nibble round till theres just the orangey bit left
bourbons and custard creams Dappledthings same way
toast always cut off the strip at the top that the toaster has missed

I eat toast like this, bottom crust first, then eat my way to the best bit, the top crust, thats unless the dogs are eyeballing me, they get the bottom crusts.

I still eat dinners by eating my least favourite first.

Exactly! I even have to prepare it in a very specific way - hate anyone making my toast as they would definitely do it wrong 🤣

I’m like that with so much of my food. Bagels for instance should be spread with cream cheese while still warm but not too hot. Smoked salmon needs a squeeze of fresh lemon, far more thinly sliced gherkins than any reasonable person would have. Serve it open so I get a double helping of toppings. Happy to make my own, exh used to insist on doing it wrong. It wasn’t the official reason for the divorce.

So long as you're eating unobtrusively if you're with other people then it doesn't matter how you eat.

I eat bought sandwiches the same way every time. I eat all the crusts off the 1st triangle. Then crusts off the 2nd triangle. I then eat my crisps. Then I go back to my sandwiches. I eat it from the outside in (where the crusts used to be first) for the 1st one, then the 2nd one.

DH thinks its bonkers, but I can't eat them any other way!!

Why would you eat all the crusts first - they're the worst bit?! You should go bite of middle bit, bite of crust for balance and then carry on like that until a middle bit last to finish!

Club biscuits - you have to try and eat the chocolate off the biscuit first. Then and only then the biscuit.

Everything has to be deconstructed. I bite the chocolate off the outside of Maltesers, the shell off Smarties, snap Buenos in half lengthways and eat out the cream, etc.

If I get a McFlurry I have to try and eat as much plain ice cream as I can to start with so you’re left with hardly any ice cream but loads of the topping 😋

I can't eat bought sandwiches without crisps in the middle. They are too soft and I need something crunchy. Preferably S&V to give it that bite.

Because you have to get rid of the worst bit first so it doesn't taint the best bit!!

on a roast dinner, i eat my vegetables first, in order from worst to best, then potatoes, then the meat, then the Yorkshire puddings (best bit!)

But what if God forbid you're full and you have filled up on all the rubbish bits and have all the best bits left and you can't eat them?! I leave pizza crusts for this reason and only eat them at the end (dipped in garlic mayo obvs) if I'm still hungry!

Some of the ways people are describing eating things sound pretty disgusting - nibbling round edges, slurping out innards etc! I presume you would only do this if alone?

MortgageMusings24 · 07/03/2024 19:08

I do this with some foods. Used to be more as a child but have naturally grown out of it a bit. I also count things a lot. Have been told by a therapist I have some OCD traits but it's not causing me any problems so doesn't need treatment.
