My ex gets paid around £2,200 per month (take home pay). He has very low rent (approx £300 per month), barely uses his car, doesn't really have much of a social life, shares utility bills with his housemate and then there's usual food, phone, TV etc. He pays me £360 ish in child maintenance per month. He doesn't often do anything with the kids and they rarely go to his house.
Meanwhile, my total income (earnings child maintenance, everything) is around 300 less than his per month. I have the children almost 100% of the time so my food bill is way bigger than his. My rent is double what he pays and I spend way more than him on petrol. Yet he is claiming he is skint. How????

You mention food….. does he cook at all or just eat take aways? Thats a real financial killer.

coffee on way to work £4
sandwich and drink for lunch £6
just eat for dinner £20

it’s easily done and that’s £150 a week!

@Picklestop you've not seen his house. Even he says its not suitable. His house mate is younger has parties akin to students. Drink, drugs etc. It's really not appropriate for them to stay there.

Drink, drugs, etc.... I think you might have identified what he's spending his money on OP, and it's not Charlie Bigham meals for 1.

@19lottie82 he has dietry restrictions so he cooks most of the time.

I think I'll just have to let it go and hope he gets his shit together at some point.

£2,200

subtract

£360 for CM

leaves £1840

subtract rent £300

leaves £1540

a share of utility bills divided by 2 - shouldn't be more than £500 for the month; gas, electric, council tax, water rates, house insurance TV licence

would leave £1040

then his car; insurance, MOT, car loan, fuel £300 per month

would leave £740 disposable income

food for 1 £200

£540
gym membership £100

£440 left over

Its obviously none of OPs business but if the man is claiming poverty - he is making giving her information that she shouldn't have...

Judging by some of the responses on this thread, this is why these useless men continue to get away with paying peanuts.

No, it’s not fair or right OP but until the government start to get firm and increase CM amounts, nothing is going to change.
