Would you take this job? (Massive pay cut)

I've been job searching for 2 solid months following redundancy. Applied for 30 positions. Have had zero call backs.

I have a lot of experience in my field but the market is completely saturated at the mo.

I interviewed for a start up yesterday, the role is one I did 10 years ago and the pay is shit (In comparison to what I'm used to)

BUT it would be money coming in, and I could negotiate my title to Manager which would look good on my CV. I could use this as a stepping stone.

Would you take it or hold out for something better?

I'd take it since you're not having much luck with finding another option right now, and keep an eye out for something better. Unless you really wouldn't enjoy it and your income isn't essential.

Are you my twin OP? 🤔
I was made redundant from a well paid job, and took a slightly more junior role for less pay. I too negotiated to have the title tweaked to include manager, but I had done that beforehand! The role allowed more WFH, so the less pay was off set by a reduction in commuting costs. I also had less pressure than the previous role.

*the pay is shit (In comparison to what I'm used to)

BUT it would be money coming in* HOW? Sorry, what do you mean?

Its often easier to find another job when you currently have one. I'd take it, and worst case, keep looking.

Sorry OP, I re read what you'd said re the pay. I thought you said the pay is less, but it would be MORE money coming in- hence I wondered how?
Ignore my comment! 🙄

Yanbu - I would take the job. You can keep looking for other roles, but you’d feel rotten if you didn’t get another role for six months and let this one slip by.

SpringOfContentment · 06/03/2024 10:46

If your current income is 0, surely it's a massive payrise to be working again?

Ifailed · 06/03/2024 10:47

It's a job you can do, take it. I do believe in the old adage that it's easier to get a new job when you already have one.

Zanatdy · 06/03/2024 10:47

I’d just take the role, it’s an income and it doesn’t need to be forever.

SuncreamAndIceCream · 06/03/2024 10:49

I would take it too.

It's easier to get a new job when you're already in one, and if you can negotiate WFH maybe or some other benefits to make the money less of an issue. Also you never know where it might lead in the future.

Take it and keep looking. Even if you leave after 2 months, I always think they would do
the same to you if it suited them. Better to have some money coming in than no money coming in.
