Tui emailed to say one or more of our flights would be operated by Fly 4 with tui staff?
Anyone had this?
Is it all OK.
Normally use jet2 so never known this before? X

For me this is unacceptable, I would buy the same thing for 30% cheaper and fly with low-cost airlines, TUI must have problems doing something like this, I and my friends will definitely not be TUI customers again

You’ve has a few explanations as to why TUI might be doing this but sounds like you’re not convinced..

Pretty much the whole industry has problems with handling capacity this summer and the aircraft manufacturers are struggling to deliver.

As a result regardless of which airline you choose to move your custom to there’s a finite chance you’ll still end up be encountering an ACMI operated flight….

How Will ACMI Trends Shape The Leasing Sector In 2024?

With crew shortages in the long-term forecast, wet leasing will undoubtedly be a popular solution.

I've had the same email, except our flight is now going to be with Smartlynx. Never heard of them.

I feel cheated and I am filing a complaint, they are obliged to give me what I paid for, TUI will not survive this year

There is only one stupid person on this thread and its not @notimagain . You have given no legitimate reason for objecting to a very minor change other than bleating "Wah. Not fair. I don't book low cost. Yadda yadda" @notimagain has given you an excellent informed response and you have just been bloody rude.

Oh and you don't speak on behalf of your friends. I am sure most people would not be bothered by the livery, seat colour and who the captains are, who incidentally will have completed rigorous training in the same manner as more fancy carriers

Cheated 🤣🤣🤣 I don't think tui will be going bust because of this either 🤦‍♀️

you have to work for TUI or worse fly4. I say goodbye to the group if they don't understand me, it's unacceptable for me to buy a fake perfume while paying for the original

Tui are leasing planes from leasing companies because so many people are booking their holidays with Tui, so they need more seats than they have on their liveried aircraft. That doesn't sound like a firm that's going to go bust

And whichever airline a passenger books with, they may find themselves flying on a different company's plane. Even BA does this.

Nope I don't work in the travel industry.

Just had our flight to Costa del Sol in July changed from Tui to FLY4 , I understand that the cabin crew will still be Tui staff but the cockpit captains will be Fly4 and the exterior of the aircraft will be Fly4 not Tui.
My concern is that these aircraft do not have extra space or extra leg room seats.
On Tui bookings for July to Costa del Sol there is not an option to upgrade.
Our original confirmation still shows our upgraded seats.
Does anyone have any further information please?

Mike80 · 17/03/2024 20:50

Where is everyone flying from?

Howell2023 · 18/03/2024 16:10

We have received the same email. I’m a tad put out as we’ve paid for extra leg room seats, I’m hoping to be refunded. We had the same thing happen 2 years ago but only got notified 24 hrs before the flight. It was a Spanish airline and no TUI crew. Huge plane and good service. It always makes me anxious not knowing anything about the airline. We always book with TUI as normally they are decent.

Howell2023 · 18/03/2024 16:12

We are flying from Birmingham to Dalaman in May

toomuchfaff · 18/03/2024 16:39

I had a recent RyanAir flight and as we got to the gate the only plane i could see was a Fly$ plane - i was so confused - all the gate staff were still RyanAir, nut no RyanAir plane in sight - we got on the plane - all RyanAir staff - looked into it and as someone said - they lease planes to other airlines. I wouldn't cancel - its still the same trip. We had our booked seats, no issues.

Itscatsallthewaydown · 18/03/2024 16:42

Just had a similar email. Flying in September. I’m certainly not freaking out about like the over-excitable poster above.

Omegadeep · 18/03/2024 20:46

TUI actually own 49% of Fly4 so I understand and the current four 737 800s are being used by TUI with TUI cabin crew and FLY4 Captain and pilot.

I believe Fly4 is 49% owned by TUI.

I’ve just had an e mail too from TUI . Are these Fly 4 planes the Max 8 ones that had the ‘ nose down ‘ problem? I’m a bit of a nervous flyer ?

MyFlakyCat · 19/03/2024 10:45

Feel a bit dissatisfied that I booked TUI but feel like I’m getting betterbuy brand . Died anyone know anything about them?

As far as I can see Fly4 operates 737-800 which is not a Max…

Having said that if the MAX is a significant worry to you then are you aware TUI themselves do have MAXs in their fleet….have you looked to see what aircraft type were you originally booked on?

Been a lot said upthread…..

They are part of the TUI group. newish airframes, regulated in Ireland, flight crew (pilots) to all the checking and have to jump through pretty much the same hoops in terms of checking and standards as any other Irish/UK/European operator. Cabin crew are apparently TUI.

What TUI have done is wet leased out to an operator over which they as a group have significant control (including quality control), rather than farm it out to a completely alien operator over which they would have less control.

MHA · 19/03/2024 17:33

have had a look at fly4 Airlines looks ok to me .....the thing thats get me TUI let you book the holiday then change the plane ,because people may not book the holiday seeing a different airline and plane 😎

TUI is also for all intents and purposes low cost!

Maybe, but I think it's more a case of the details (as in flights/bases to be covered) not being finalised until quite recently.

FWIW first I saw/heard anything in the specialist outlets/sites of Fly4 covering anything for "mainline" TUI summer services was only a month or so ago.

peepsypops · 19/03/2024 18:14

The whole point of ACMI is that the customer knows no different. Crew are trained by TUI in all matters regarding safety and customer care and the product offered is the same.
Fly4 supply both pilots and the senior cabin crew, the other cabin crew are TUI mainline crew. As previous posters have said, Fly4 is partly owned by TUI anyway and this is planned to be a long term agreement.
Many many airlines do this without the customer knowing much about it at all - usually the reason is the original carrier do not have enough aircraft or crew for the work they need done. The only reason you are only knowing about it now is because I assume they have just finalised their summer schedule which starts when the clocks change.
I don't work for them however I have worked for ACMI airlines for many years and it's a very successful product.
