We are having our first family vacation abroad this weekend, our son is 2.5 years old and never flown before. The flight is 3.5 hours. I’m super anxious of how’s he’s going to be. I guess I need some positive encouragement honestly stories from you.

We’ve been flying from about 4m. I found the worst was 18m when they want to walk about, but can’t concentrate on a programme and can’t really communicate what they want.

We’ve just done a 4.5hr flight with our 2.5 old and it was a breeze. They loved the snacks, we downloaded lots of programmes on the iPad which was a special treat for them. They didn’t sleep unfortunately, but they haven’t napped since 18m so I wasn’t expecting it! I always plan for the worst and then everything is a bonus!!

This with bells on. Mobile baby -> attention span for the ipad is THE WORST. Beyond that, never had a bad flight as far as the kids were concerned and we did a lot of long haul travel during our expat period. 2.5YO I’d consider a breezy age, especially with my DD who is the quiet colouring type but even with DS who is normally an endless ball of insane energy. Plan for the worst absolutely, not just with regard to the kids behaviour but what you’ll need if you’re delayed or bags get lost, just to manage expectations and be prepared but most likely it’ll be absolutely fine!
