to give you hope that compulsive snacking doesn't have to cause obesity

I've had breakfast and started work. Feel the need for a snack. Eat one go back to work. One is not enough to go back for another. Go back to work. Return to fridge for a handful of snacks to put on my desk. Munch on and off while reading work documents for the next hour.

My snack is radishes and raw peas. 2 years ago it was chocolate and biscuits, and cheese on toast. These days I don't buy chocolate at all, I walk past it in the supermarket and just don't fancy picking any up. There are biscuits in the barrel, but I don't fancy those either. I have made toast for my kids, but was not tempted.

I am just telling you this so you know it is possible to change your tastes and habits. I was obese for decades. I am 7 stone lighter now. It isn't a life long battle. It takes months, but habits can be changed, you just have to keep trying. The first 3 days are always the worst, and every time I slipped up and ate sweets once, I had to go through those first 3 days again.

I really enjoy my radishes and raw peas. As much as I ever enjoyed chocolate and cakes, except more, because they don't come with the guilt and loss of self respect I always had about my snacking before.

If I had my time again, I would definitely raise my children with healthier snacks too, luckily they have never fallen into the traps I did with food, but I could have taught them to enjoy more vegetable snacks from a younger age, if I had been a bit more proactive about it

Fair play to you op, you have given me hope. The 3 day thing is a good tip, thanks

That’s amazing! Thank you so much. I am slightly overweight but also really worried about diabetes now I am hitting 40. I’m a chocoholic and would love to change my habits.

what do you have for breakfast? Out of interest :)

Today I had scrambled egg. I was hungry, sometimes I am not hungry and just give it a miss altogether. I still eat fruit - I know that is sugary too, but combined with fibre and vitamins, so more filling and better for you. I eat a limited amount, but a piece of fruit is probably breakfast a couple of times a week, or no-added sugar cereal - if I have any. Weekend breakfast is a fry up in butter!

Well done you!

Are you enjoying being in your body now?

Did you use any kind of NLP/hypnosis?

yes, I am enjoying my body! People say I have got taller - but I am just standing up proudly now. Now, I didn't use anything else. The most helpful thing to me was a particular book "Why we eat too much". I didn't follow this advice exactly though, as my main problem was sugary snacks, and I decided to cut these out completely and get out of the habit
