Mothers Day

My son and daughter always come over for either a meal out or takeout and let me know. Their partners go to their parents. This year they have said nothing about coming over. Would IBU to ask them if they are coming over or is that rude? They have no children of their own

Yes ask them. That’s ok.

CactusPat · 03/03/2024 22:46

Of course it’s not rude - ‘hey kids are we doing something for Mothers’ Day or do you have plans?’ Perfectly fine.

Is your relationship with the kids strained that you feel like that’s awkward to ask them?

Summerbay23 · 03/03/2024 22:52

To be honest I wouldn’t mention it. I’d let them set the tone for the day.

SleepEatSnoozeRepeat · 03/03/2024 22:54

Just ask! Are you around for this weekend, let me know. I can shop or get takeaway, whatever you would prefer. It really doesn’t need to be a big deal.

Orangehair · 03/03/2024 22:58

Thanks for the replies. We have a very good relationship so this just feels strange

They might not have realised, isn’t it earlier than normal?
Definitely mention it 💐

It’s weird that Mother’s Day changes every year whilst Father’s Day is always the third Sunday of June.

People would have less of an excuse to forget MD if it was a similar fixed day of a month.

LittleOwl153 · 03/03/2024 23:12

I've not seen much mention in the shops yet this year... maybe they ha ent realised yet?

gingeristhenewblack43 · 03/03/2024 23:14

I was taken aback today when I realised Mother's Day is next Sunday! I have a mother and I am a mother.
