Honestly, nearly ever programme has someone vomiting. I find it vile - especially when eating!

AIBU to think vomiting is used far too often in tv/films??

Cant remember the last programme I watched where someone vomited to be honest.

MumMumMumMumMumMumMum · 03/03/2024 19:04

What are you watching? I don't know when I last something where someone vomited to be honest.

Meowandthen · 03/03/2024 19:04

WTF are you watching?

Not in the programmes I watch.

Ithinkitstimeforbed · 03/03/2024 19:05

I don’t see it on tv often but I’d be glad if it didn’t pop up in any tv show ever- I don’t think it adds to a show, they can imply it without showing it!

WishIMite · 03/03/2024 19:05

It’s almost every programme. I can’t think of anything I’ve watched that DOESN’T have it.

Currently watching the film Independence Day. Someone just threw up. Last night Boarders - someone threw up.

Night before it was that death in paradise series in Devon - someone threw up.

I can’t even remember when I last saw it happen tbh.

WishIMite · 03/03/2024 19:07

It’s used to tell you someone is scared/pregnant/a child (always travel sick)

MississippiAF · 03/03/2024 19:07

Can’t say I’ve noticed. Are you emetophobic?

WishIMite · 03/03/2024 19:07

Ok tell me what you are watching because it’s almost every night for me!

Drunk or hungover

BoohooWoohoo · 03/03/2024 19:09

Do you see the vomit or hear people vomiting in these programmes ?

WishIMite · 03/03/2024 19:10

Oh wait - night before: Loudermilk. Usually hearings and seeing! Lovely.

The scene in And Just Like that...was really grim

EBearhug · 03/03/2024 19:11

It happens more than once in Boarders, if you've not watched the whole series. To be fair, it isn't really unexpected in a portrayal of teenagers behaving as teenagers.

But that is the only programme I can think of that I've seen it in recently.

PurpleChrayn · 03/03/2024 19:12

And the actors always cough. I've never in my life coughed when vomiting/

NeelyOHara1 · 03/03/2024 19:12

I'll add, more detailed being on the toilet scenes. Why? Also 🙄at the kicking something and swearing trope to represent male emotion.

No me neither. But I don’t throw up every time I drink/get hangover/go in plane etc etc unlike most characters.

<someone else just threw up in Independence Day because he’s On A Plane)

I'm with you, OP. Emetophobic and have to look away and put my fingers in my ears at vomiting scenes, so hate it when I get caught by surprise. Was rewatching Constantine the other day and, yep, vomiting there too. Not so bad when it's just 'hand to mouth running to the loo' but why do we have to have the whole 'vegetable soup out of mouth' bit. We know what sick looks like, we don't want it rubbed in our faces (so to speak)!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/03/2024 19:16

It's horrible, it's a new thing, they used to just imply someone was puking with a bit of audio but now it's full on and you see everything 🤢🤢🤢

Agree! Why?!?! Just no need surely?

I don’t think I’ve ever noticed someone vomiting in a TV programme. We just watched Gladiators and Wild Isles and I’m fairly sure there was no vomiting. Going to watch Benjamin Appl and James Baillieu’s rendition of Schubert’s Winterreise once DC are in bed. I’ll keep an eye out for anyone barfing into the piano.

GoodVibesHere · 03/03/2024 19:27

I agree OP! It happens so quickly and suddenly too, unexpectedly, so there's not enough time to grab the remote and turn down the horrible sound of it.

Member968405 · 03/03/2024 20:34

Totally agree! There are more ways to indicate that a character is upset/ pregnant/ drunk than the constant copious vomiting. Unnecessary and also disgusting.
