Name changed for this. I'm currently in a hospital ward recovering from surgery. I'm on day 7 and it's been a complicated recovery. My ward mate is snoring and honestly, I have never heard anything like it. Seriously disturbing, like a deranged horse.

I'll not get any sleep. I'm not sure what to do. Nurses gave me ear plugs. Aibu to be so frustrated?

I don't think there's any spare rooms.

Sorry, OP - are you bedbound? Can you get to the corridor and speak to the nurses again?

Would any ambient music help?

Is there anyone who could bring you noise cancelling earphones tomorrow? Is it just the two of you in the ward?

ShrubRose · 03/03/2024 01:42

What about a white noise app on your phone?

Lumiodes · 03/03/2024 02:54

Honestly I would just yell SHUT UP! and wake the person up. It’s not like the staff can do anything about your behaviour. Tell them you have a mental health condition that makes it difficult to cope with noise.

Much empathy. I was on a ward for a week with three others who were all significantly older than me and they ALL snored. They were also all deaf and couldn’t hear themselves when their hearing aids were out. I had ear plugs in and a wide eye mask with Bluetooth speakers covering my eyes but still wanted to stab them by night two.

This, although op might be too nice to want to do it

white noise through headphones can really help - play it on loop on Spotify.
A word of warning though, iPods only have 5 hours of battery life. Mine ran out at 4am every night on a recent trip when I had the joy of sharing a twin room with an awful snorer.
hope you can escape home soon xx

My husband is a snorer. The only ear plugs that work for me are the pink and yellow ones on amazon. I see that noise cancelling ones can also be purchased. Do you know anyone with amazon prime who could order you some?
