They’re great if you pack for multiple family members in one case. Get different colours!

Hate packing but packing cubes make it x 10 easier.

Love my cubes ♥️

Great if you are packing for multiple people in one case especially multi destinations.

If travel on my own I don't, I roll everything instead. You can see everything that way.

Packing cubes have been around for decades. It's about 20 years since I was a backpacker, and the enthusiastic shop assistants were trying to convince me to spend more than the value of my entire luggage on cubes to organise it in.

If you are packing once, travelling to one destination and unpacking into a cupboard, then they don't add much.

If you are going on a multi stop holiday, and will be rummaging around in your luggage daily, or living out of your backpack, then they really help to keep things organised.

I like the ones with clean/dirty sides. Otherwise I find that you can't stay organised because your clothes don't fit back in the same way they came out.

A cheaper option is to pack into big ziplock freezer bags.

And I have been packing my own suitcases since the 1970s, so they are "new" compared to me!!

Quizine · 03/03/2024 12:28

Large ziploc bags here, I can see everything inside and I push the air out to minimise them.

Pack half of what you planned to bring. Everyone, myself included comes home with a ton of stuff never worn or used. Need that room to bring home the local goodies folks!

Thank you! I'm often on the brink of buying something I've convinced myself I need based on a MN thread (heated clothes dryer, penis beaker ...) but I'll skip these!

We don't unpack it all though - we just take the cubes out and put them in the wardrobe or drawers ready to be taken out and worn

I use them, not because I can't pack but it helps me separate the delicate clothes from the not so delicate. I can put my posh frocks in one with my sheer tops and then my jeans and shorts in another. Then my shoes and bags at the bottom of the bag, it also means buckles, studs, etc don't get caught on the delicate fabric.

Mine came from Amazon.

Chickenrunning · 03/03/2024 12:45

How big are the ziplock bags people use? Surely they don’t fit multiple pairs of adult trousers in?

Changeeusername · 03/03/2024 13:24

We go away in our campervan for extended periods and they are great. I like the ones that you can see through (net on one side) as you know what's in them without opening them. I have two Muji ones (my favourites) but they don't appear to sell them anymore.
I bought some compression ones from Amazon and am not impressed as have to open up.

We often stop in AirBnB's or hotels while away and again the cubes turn in to little mini drawers. Zip open and there's your clothing. I roll everything.

Yes. Me too.

No, trousers and cardis go flat packed separately first. I use the large ziplocs (approx 12"x12") for underwear, t shirts, socks, those kind of fiddly bits that can get strewn all over the suitcase! Shoes and small bag go in the personal items bag that goes under the seat. Coat/jacket I wear.

The above is not always foolproof, but works for me most of the time.

FirstFallopians · 03/03/2024 14:05

Primark have them in stock at the moment for a couple of quid.

I wouldn’t be without them now- I pack fairly lightly but they’re so handy to keep everything separated and organised, especially the kids stuff.

Fourmagpies · 03/03/2024 14:52

I never knew how much I needed them in my life, but would not be without them now. I'm a single parent of two teen ds. We have our own cubes, and it's so much easier for them to pack their own clothes and to chuck cubes in their direction on arrival rather than having to unpack everything and take a pile to each of them. Also incredibly easy to redistribute if you get to the airport and find that one bag is much heavier than the other (and overweight 🤦‍♀️)

We have the Amazon basics ones, the smaller ones are easier to pack.

Hiddendoor · 03/03/2024 19:47

Although I was taught how to pack a suitcase by the Brownies (was there a badge or was this just a core skill, like having 10p, a hanky and a pencil in my pocket at all time?) My packing life has been transformed by my recent packing cubes purchase.

They were invaluable on a recent trip when we travled by train. No weight restrictions but space was tight. Fab things helped hugely.
