Bad luck to still be wearing Christmas pjs?! in own home?

Summertimesaddness · 02/03/2024 16:38

I have some really comfy Christmas themed pajamas that I still want to wear at home. I've heard that wearing Christmas clothes after the Christmas period brings bad luck and I am just wondering if this is a well known thing or am I mistaken?!

OP posts:

It's in the bible. Jebediah 13.13. "And lo, in March she did appear and was cloth'd in the pyjamas of the Christ child's birth festival. And all those around were afeard. And true, she was smited." If your house gets struck with lightening, we will all know why ...

AttentionToDetal · 02/03/2024 19:20

Ha I've never heard that before. I wear Christmas socks all year round.

My DC wear the xmas pjs they got or they'd grow out of them with barely any use.. Waste not want not!

UpUpUpU · 02/03/2024 19:22

My son and I are wearing Christmas pjs and still have out Christmas/winter bedding on 😛

Prawncow · 02/03/2024 19:26

Christmas PJs after Christmas are bad luck? Said who? The Shein fairy? Clothes aren’t single wear.

Sorry if I wasn't clear in my original post. I mean has anyone else heard of this superstition? This is a lighthearted thread. I'm just feeling very blessed as a first time mum at the moment and I'm perhaps about apprehensive too. If that makes sense.

I haven't heard of it. My late mum was superstitious- I've gone the other way and will happily walk under ladders, out umbrellas up indoors and so on.

notthisagainn · 02/03/2024 19:36

I'm wearing Xmas pyjamas as we speak. I hate Xmas but these were 75% off and lovely and soft. Clothes are clothes.

Menomeno · 02/03/2024 19:42

It can hardly be an age old superstition when Xmas pyjamas have only been a thing for the past few years.

Pineapplewaves · 02/03/2024 20:03

My kids are still wearing their Christmas PJ's, they won't fit them next Christmas so I'm getting my money's worth out of them. It's never occurred to me that it would be bad luck!

imSatanhonest · 02/03/2024 20:04

Is it double-bad luck if you put your bins out in, full view of neighbours, whilst wearing your favourite xmas pjs in February?? If so I'm doomed!

Not heard the original superstition, OP.

DillDanding · 02/03/2024 20:07

Don’t be ridiculous.

scrivette · 02/03/2024 20:19

My SIL took great joy in telling me I would have bad luck this year as I didn't take down my decorations until after the 12th night!

I wear my Christmas socks and pyjamas all year around and so does my DC.

Aye bad luck for the retailers if you're not a mug who pays for something then only puts it to its intented purpose for one night a year.

@SomeCatFromJapan Christmas is a 'season/period' not a night.

FabFebHalfTerm · 02/03/2024 20:32

@Summertimesaddness

my 'Brussel sprout PJ bottoms' have had about 3 'final' washes before going away (until next Christmas). They are just SO soft & comfortable.

i put them away, not because of superstition' but because I like getting out my 'Christmas Stuff' (Socks, pants, PJ's T-shirts etc) each year. I buy a couple of new bits to add each year.

i must have bought a more budget range than you did though, as mine didn't come with a newborn!! I feel cheated now!!

Snugglemonkey · 02/03/2024 21:05

We wear them all year round. Dc until they do not fit, but I keep them. My baby wears hers and her brother's. We are all grand.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 02/03/2024 21:13

Historically it was considered to be bad luck to have the Christmas lights on after Jan 6th/Feast of the Epiphany. Which is a bit odd as in many countries the 6th is when Father Christmas comes and gift giving takes place?
In Ireland it's called "Little Christmas" or Women's Christmas in the south. And is traditionally a day when women get together, leave their kids in the care of their spouses (it used to be a school holiday) and go out for a blow out.
So to me it feels very convenient to have a bad luck moniker attached to it. Another reason to create pressure and women's work .

Sod that. If they are comfy wear them.

Stealthmodemama · 02/03/2024 21:16

You get a choice - either everything away by 12th night - or you have to use it for a year..

We have a few 'missed' Christmas items that are now up for the year.. :)

SometimesIchangemyname · 02/03/2024 21:19

If you’re wearing them in March they’re not Christmas pyjamas are they. Just clothes with a pattern on.

soundsys · 02/03/2024 21:22

Oh my goodness, no!

I'm mega-superstitious and I've never heard of this (and my kids are in their Christmas PJs still!)

Justleaveitblankthen · 02/03/2024 21:23

TomaytoTomaato · 02/03/2024 16:41

I'm still regularly wearing Christmas socks!

Yep. I dig out my various reindeer & Santa bobbled ski socks in October and wear them through till April 🎅

ManchesterLu · 02/03/2024 21:25

Bad luck/superstitions mean nothing, and have no bearing on events that happen.

Wear what you want, when you want.

DinoMummsy · 02/03/2024 21:39

We wear christmas jammies, socks and pants all year round - definitely keep wearing them, esp if they're comfy.

FiveShelties · 03/03/2024 02:21

It is only bad luck if you are expecting presents.🎄

PeopleAreWeird · 03/03/2024 02:23

Iv got some on right now. For some reason i only wear Xmas pj bottoms and not the top tho. I have no idea why though 😂

Riapia · 03/03/2024 04:55

Well known fact.
It is very unlucky to be superstitious.

PeloMom · 03/03/2024 05:52

Never heard of that.
