To expect second hand clothes to not be covered in pet hair?

Gorgeous pair of trousers from Vinted and they are covered in it. The blurb didn't say "from a pet free household" nevertheless I still wouldn't expect them to be covered in hairs.
I don't have a lint remover so am doing the sellotape thing. I know it's a first world problem but would it bother others or would you just get on with it? Thanks.

It’s not ideal but I always wash second hand clothes anyway. Depends how much you paid whether it’s worth pursuing further.

LolaSmiles · 02/03/2024 15:13

It's not ideal, but when buying second hand I'd expect to have to wash, lint roller and for knitted garments I'd probably also expect to debobble them as a lot of people pass on perfectly good items that are in need of a little care.

HearMeSnore · 02/03/2024 15:14

I think I'd probably expect it if the listing didn't specify pet-free.

Are they tumble-drier safe? If so, the lint trap would get rid of most of it for you.

SevenSeasOfRhye · 02/03/2024 15:16

If they weren't covered in pet hair when they arrived at my house, they soon would be, so it wouldn't bother me.

Cherrysoup · 02/03/2024 15:16

I’d be cross, tbh and I’ve got dogs. It’s been the biggest pita removing every single hair from stuff I’ve sold. It’s taken ages. I don’t care if it’s a low value item, I am absolutely scrupulous. No idea if you can view feedback on Vinted but am totally over the top cleaning stuff off.

F1ymetothetoon · 02/03/2024 15:21

Yeah I'd be annoyed but I bung stuff from Vinted straight into the wash for it to mingle with all the floof from my cats 😂

wizzbitt · 02/03/2024 15:47

Yes I do always wash clothes before wearing them and although they weren't madly expensive either I thought it would be a decent thing to de fluff them. Anyway as it is I managed to get the fur off and they're going to get washed so I'm sure they'll be fine.
I contacted the seller who told me to put them in the wash ConfusedNot sure why she couldn't have done that before selling them to me 🤷🏿‍♀️
Thanks all ✌🏿

It wouldn't bother me too much, I might message the seller and let them know in a "I get it, but someone else might knock a star off their review" kind of way.

I think most Vinted sellers just treat the stuff they're selling as they do everything else - if they realise that the cat has been using the clean laundry pile, shrug and put on a fur covered top, then they'll shrug and post the fur covered jeans too.

fernsandlilies · 02/03/2024 16:32

Yes this really annoys me when I’ve bought something new with tags. Last time it was a tailored jacket, so not washable. I would have returned it if not for losing the postage under the Vinted rules.

LenaLamont · 02/03/2024 16:52

To be honest, when there are pets in a home a certain amount of cross contamination is almost inevitable, so unless it says pet-free home, I assume a bit of pet fur.

Pet owners get like smokers - they don’t seem to notice some things that people who live without those will notice immediately. My friend swears her house “doesn’t smell like dog”.

I’d pop it in the wash as a first port of call if there’s actually quite a bit, then use a clothes brush briskly to remove the rest.

hurvi · 03/03/2024 04:14

Would be impossible to avoid in my home unfortunately, even with best intention. I could lint roll for hours but then would just get hair straight on again if I put down anywhere for a second

MariaVT65 · 03/03/2024 04:18

Yes I would annoyed tbh if it is something I’d paid money for, regardless of how cheap. I have to be honest though and say I don’t really buy second-hand clothes.

Nofilteritwonthelp · 03/03/2024 04:23

YANBU but I only buy from pet free and smoke free homes, people who smoke and have pets have smelly homes and usually smell themselves. Lesson learned

Katemax82 · 03/03/2024 09:39

That sounds bloody annoying

Can you recommend a de-bobbler? Any I’ve tried have been pretty hopeless!

Willmafrockfit · 03/03/2024 09:59

that would be off putting

Misthios · 03/03/2024 10:05

Pet people are oblivious to their pets and their hair. I volunteer in a charity shop and quite regularly open bags which are filled with pet hair. I am very allergic to cats (not so much to dogs) and it sets me off sneezing for the rest of the shift.

And yes, I always wash second hand clothes before wearing.

wizzbitt · 03/03/2024 14:30

I mostly buy second hand now and this is the first time clothing has been covered in hair and there was one other time the clothes smelled of smoke!
Yes it is a lesson learned and I will definitely look out for whether it's a smoke/pet free home now.
And all de fluff/lint roller recommendations will be gratefully received too 😉
