just that really- baby will be four months on Sunday and mostly we’ve been getting on great. Obviously typically tired and have an almost 4 year old too but I wouldn’t say I’m depressed. I’m generally quite an anxious person and take sertraline but I still feel like I’m on a hormonal ride at the moment feeling ups and downs/ general levels of anxiety (not interfering with my life I’m still getting on with it) but make me feel quite tearful. Can still feel joy in my little bundle so I don’t think I’m depressed. Am I still in the throws of post partum?!

Probably yes. It can take two years for your hormone levels to return to 'normal'. it sounds like you know what to look for. Be kind to yourself x

Thank you for replying @MadMadamMim123, I’m almost too in tune with myself so I recognise all the dips and puts me on edge. Hard on myself as well as four months in isn’t that long in the grand scheme of things. X

It really isn't! I'm 18 months in with dc4 and still have wobbles. It's hard, and it's OK for it to be hard. X

Louise Newson did a podcast episode - principally about IVF and menopause but in it she talked about the hormonal rollercoaster that happens after birth, and goes on for a long time, and how she wishes she could prescribe some oestrogen or something to flatten it out.

She says it's very similar to peri/menopause with the sharp drops in oestrogen and subsequent fluctuations as a menstrual cycle re-establishes itself.

Here it is: www.balance-menopause.com/menopause-library/fertility-pregnancy-and-perimenopause-with-rhona-and-tanya/

Gosh, 4 @MadMadamMim123. You’re amazing for doing this four times. Do you get general anxiety waves at all?

that’s really interesting @OctogenarianDecathlete - hormones are powerful things aren’t they. Gives me the fear that it’s always just going to be a constant battle with them!
