It's an older article from July. Just came across it from a random tik tok video and listened to the whole recording on the article. Scary to think without the recording how the poor girls would've been made out to be troublesome teenagers or exaggerating most likely...

Can anyone tell me how it is any more ridiculous to identify as a cat than as the opposite sex?

Neither are based in reality.

No-one’s bothered about the girls secretly filming the conversation…?

If they thought they wouldn’t be believed they should have asked for another teacher to be present, not recorded the conversation without the teacher’s consent or knowledge.

while I have very strong views on ensuring biological females keep their safe spaces - I would not be posting something about my child that is going to be in the public eye - these girls are going to get a lot of attention for this that is going to be disruptive to their schooling

I’m not bothered about it, no. In fact I think that sort of action is essential to holding people with power to account.

It is a teacher's duty to remain neutral on controversial subjects. I am a teacher and would never enter into a discussion like this. She was unprofessional and should have said that this is a very emotive subject that she is unable to comment on.

We have been given absolutely no guidance on this at my school so I can see how easily a young woke inexperienced teacher would walk into a situation like this.

Also, I think the girls were right to challenge. They weren't rude but did stand their ground. Good for them.

The other teacher would back up the teacher, whether or not they agreed.

Some teachers haven't changed have they, with the 'Teachers tone' as a rhetorical device to enforce an opinion.
Now it's leaked no doubt the teacher will be off with stress for 12 months.

TheKeatingFive · 01/03/2024 17:41

The teacher was also woefully uneducated on the subject 'There are three sexes, male, female and intersex' No there most certainly isn't. There are differences in sexual development, but only 2 sexes. To be saying that in an educational setting is quite astonishing

Yes, this is shocking misinformation

Do you think it was an appropriate way for the teacher to talk to them even if they had said something offensive?

The article clearly states it was recorded by one of the girls being spoken to by the teacher. The implication is that they didn’t think anyone would believe them if they reported the incident without evidence. Given the mother says she didn’t believe them until she heard the recording that’s probably not unfounded.

So the girls are being told off by their teacher, they record it because they don’t like being told off, run home to parents, parents demand teacher apologises.

they were not shouted, belittled or demeaned. Their first response to upsetting someone is to argue that they’re not allowed to say what they think. They should be ashamed. We aren’t talking about a changing rooms or safe spaces.

no I don’t agree with what the teacher is saying, but they’re trying to navigate a minefield and getting twisted, because they have been told.

we can’t just say what we want because it’s our beliefs. No the teacher shouldn’t have gotten into it, but the girls sound vile as they don’t care they’ve upset someone.

I think the teacher did belittle and demean them. She was trying o shame them for their views. The bit about going to a different school because they didn’t agree with her was outrageous.

The fact the teacher gets twisted trying to navigate this is a big clue that being so draconian towards the kids over what they can say and how they say it is unfair. They are also trying to navigate this.

We don’t know what went on in the classroom and how reasonable it is for this other girl to have been upset. But the teacher doesn’t seem to be accusing them of saying anything that isn’t challenging the idea that an animal identity is valid and linking that to the idea of gender identity theory. If they have to stop voicing their view and have it shut down and the other person’s view accepted as valid because that other person cries, it’s not surprising they have little sympathy for the person crying. It must be very frustrating for a young teen.

Since they don’t have loads of recordings of them being told off I suspect the recording was less about them not liking being told off (they sound bolshy uninhibited enough that they’ve probably been told off a fair amount) and more that they were a bit outraged at what they were being told off for and found it unfair and unreasonable. But we’ll never know, perhaps they are constantly recording in the hope something like this would happen but none of the other recordings see the light of day because it’s so rare for teachers to act this badly.
