Would you say this is the 1st week of the month?

I've had a bollocking in work today. Something needs to be done the 1st week of the month which I took to mean next week. Just wondering if I'm right or not (not that I argued about it, I just apologised).

YABU-this week is the 1st week of March
YANBU-this week is the last week of February. Next week is the 1st week of March.

I would have said next week too. Yes it's technically the first tomorrow but I would interpret the first week of the month to be the first full week of the month. If they wanted it doing this week I think they should have been much clearer.

Next week, as the last day of the previous month is in the week before (Feb 29).

AlisonDonut · 29/02/2024 17:06

What we think is immaterial.

If the person who wants it wants it BY the first week but actually means by the end of the preceding month then the phrasing needs changing to 'by the end of the month'.

The first week can mean another. The start, the end, what if the week starts mid week, what if the first week is Easter, what if, what if.....

I would say the first week of the month is next week too. If they meant this week they should have said they needed it by the end of this month.

Midnlghtrain · 29/02/2024 17:06

I would have said back end of this week counts as the first week of the month - so I'd have it prepped today / tomorrow?

But tbh that doesn't matter as clearly someone at your work has their opinion! Do they need it for the first week of the month or during?

Noneofourbusiness · 29/02/2024 17:07

The first week to me would be from next Monday to Friday.

ScarlettSunset · 29/02/2024 17:07

If they wanted it done this week they should have expressly said week ending 1st March.
Most of this week is February so I'd be counting the first week of the month of March as next week.

Maybe they need to change the wording of what’s required and just tell employees a date the work is expected to be done by that would save any confusion.

Yes but the OP could easily have still completed it this weekend ready for next week if necessary.

What they actually meant was they needed it by the 1st which is what they should have said. Saying the first week of the month is asking for someone to misunderstand.

Greenflamesburn · 29/02/2024 17:09

Next week.

Dixiechickonhols · 29/02/2024 17:11

Next week. If they needed it by 1/3 say that.
