To ask if it’s normal to feel like you have a brick on your chest with a cough?!

As above!! I’ve barely any other symptoms but a bad cough. I feel like my chest is heavy it feels like a brick is pressing it down, or there’s some kind of barrier. I don’t know how to explain it. Not short of breath but a barrier to breathing. The fact I’m not actually sick, means I don’t want to go to the doctor as it must be minor with no temp, or other illness symptoms. Could it still be a chest infection with just what I’ve described?

Sometimes, yes. Depends tbh. It’s not unusual though.

Most people have a feeling of chest tightness with a dry cough. You may feel a squeezing sensation in the chest or pressure, like there's a weight on your chest

OP, don’t try to guess. I’d ring your GP or 111 to get professional advice.

Yes it could be a chest infection

The only times I had this feeling was when I had covid.

Mustardfan · 29/02/2024 14:35

When I had whooping cough I started off with no other symptoms, no raised temperature etc, just a really bad cough, particularly at night.

purplehotdogs · 29/02/2024 14:37

Yes, I had this feeling with the virus/chest infection I just had. I did also get the other symptoms of full body aches, fatigue, hot and cold temperature, etc and of course the incessant coughing.

nugnugnugs · 29/02/2024 14:38

Sounds like covid

chagalla · 29/02/2024 14:43

That was the main symptom when I had Covid.

I feel like that with pretty much every cough I get. I'm asthmatic so pretty much all of my coughs become a chest infection.

Sounds like a chest infection to me and you need to be seen as you may need antibiotics. Sometimes non asthmatics can benefit from a temporary inhaler in these circumstances too.
