My ex has 30 percent custody of our child. He insists on sending him into school with a packed lunch even though his lunches are free. In this packed lunch there is a wagon wheel, popcorn and minieggs. He also informed me he had chocolate spread on toast and chocolate cereal before school and his dad gives him a fudge bar when he drops him off.
My ex is very difficult so if I raise it it'll go round in circles but wtf with all the sugar. People will say his time his choice and stay out but would people really be happy with this much sugar.

I think you should raise it with him. Aside from the obvious adverse health effects he is storing up for later life, your son will find it harder to concentrate at school if he is having a sugar rush/crash after such a sugary breakfast.

Is there a middle ground you can find with him?

Does he know the school dinners are free? Why does he want to send in a packed lunch?

I’m surprised if the teachers are seeing that lunchbox that they aren’t confiscating it and making him have the school lunch. Could you ask the teacher to check what he is sent in with?

Our son said he didn't like the lunches so he changed to packed lunches straight away. I told him the lunches are there to be eaten now there is no issue with him eating school lunches.

Update if anyone is interested. My child's teacher got back to me and suggested either he goes on school dinners all the time (my preference) or I work a meal plan out with his dad. It's like talking to a brick wall so that won't work.
I'm going to ask her to do a generic message to.parents reminding them about healthy lunch boxes.
