How to get student out of tenancy agreement?

DD is a university student in London. Due to the difficulty of getting a rented property in London, she and two friends got pressured into signing up to a 2 year tenancy agreement last August (2023). Now DD is having problems with the behaviour of one of the girls and is deeply unhappy. DD was wondering if she could find someone to take over her tenancy, which would enable her to move out and escape from this difficult situation.
Has anyone done this? Any advice would be so much appreciated.

Depends if the landlord/agency agrees. Only they can really tell you.

It was always very common in my day but maybe less so now, especially if there's a guarantor to sue for non-payment of rent (as opposed to a hard-to-pursue penniless student, in which case it might be better to just get someone else in quick).

She needs to speak to housing or student services at her uni. They will be able to give her contract advice on tenancies.

Yeah she needs to look at the agreement and find out what her options are.

Unlikely if she's signed a 2 year contract and especially so if she has a guarantor.

Does the behaviour of the other girl break any agreements? She needs to speak to the LL and she could get advice from student services.

No, the behaviour of the girl causing her problems doesn't break any aspects of the tenancy agreement.
We (and the parents of the girl DD is at odds with) are guarantors for the whole of the rent currently paid by the 3 girls, so the landlord no doubt has us over a barrel.
There is some excellent advice on this thread. Thanks all. I will go and study the contract and will advise DD to get in touch with Student Services at her uni.

I did this at Uni in shared accommodation. It was super quick and easy, I just messaged my landlord to say I would be leaving but I would find a replacement. I then advertised my room on Facebook university pages, conducted one viewing myself and they wanted the room so I gave their details to the landlord who signed the agreement with them and I left.
