Shall I give up on help with cleaning

Since back from mat leave I do full time hours in four days and time is tight.

I thought it would be a good idea to get a cleaner in once a fortnight to keep of top of cleans but not had much luck so far.

First one came and cleaned and all good. Two weeks later she said she had sick child and couldn't come that day. No problem, see you in two weeks.

Two weeks went by and I admit I got distracted with daily life so hadn't checked in with her and realised on the day that she just hadn't come back or messaged. Assumed she'd found a better job as she was based a few towns away so decided to look for someone else a bit closer instead.

Found someone nearer who did great job. Third session came up and she cancels same day due to family issue. I said no problem see you in two weeks but didn't have a great feeling.

Two weeks later she changed the clean day without notice to a day I couldn't do. I asked if it was possible to have usual day instead and this was agreed but now just hasn't turned up. I'm debating whether to message again but tbh I'd prefer to just disengage at this point.

It feels like more hassle to try and find a third option and not confident theyll stick around. Shall I just give up or have I just been unlucky here?

Both times I asked local residents group on Facebook for recommendations and they had Facebook pages etc with good reviews. House was never horrendous to clean, dog was kept outside while they worked, no idea what's gone wrong.

What is the rate per hour?

What would giving up mean, that you do all the cleaning? Will your partner do his half?

Are there any cleaning agencies nearby?

Babysharkdoodoodood · 28/02/2024 11:48

Just go via an agency. Might cost a bit more, but less stress

Missinsth · 28/02/2024 11:49

Both were well above minimum wage. Maybe agency is better yes how do you find them? I've only looked on FB to date but that was maybe not good idea

I had the same issue.

Had a franchisee round - agreed everything and then he started sending inappropriate messages, so I told him where to go and changed my locks!

Found someone else, who came once, then flaked and then claimed she couldn't get the door unlocked (which was rubbish).

Have given up looking.

Seems like there's a lot of people out there in the profession who aren't very reliable or professional

Cleaner supposed to turn up at 9am this morning. Still heard nothing from them so safe to say another one bites the dust

Think I'll give up trying to find someone reliable for now

I’m a cleaner.
Ive been doing this 12yrs. I’ve never just not turned up. I’ve had my clients many years.
I’d say you’ve been unlucky but I would also suggest you look for someone who has been doing this a while. There are lots of cleaners popping up all the time on FB.
Lots are doing it as a temporary fill in way to make cash. They then either give up when:
a) they get something else
b) find out the work is hard
c) they realise they’ve priced too low and aren’t even making minimum wage by the time they’ve travelled, covered fuel costs, bought their kit, paid for insurance etc.

If you’re looking on FB, look how long they’ve had their business page. Is it nee or are they pretty established?
Be prepared to pay a proper rate. Someone charging £15/hr will possibly just about be scraping minimum wage but they won’t be in a few weeks when the NMW goes up by almost 10%.

Thanks for the tips. I think first one was fairly new and saying yes to all jobs at first so will potentially look at more established companies who haven't just popped up out of nowhere
