To just go off sick until I work out what to do?

I covered maternity leave part time, original teacher came back but school wanted me to stay on. Now me and other teacher job share. Other teacher was pissed at not being the only teacher in the dept anymore and has made my life a misery ever since she came back. Our assistant has also made my life a misery, to the point I had to make a formal complaint. Complaint was dealt with, disciplinary dished out etc. A term later we are back to where it started with them both causing me problems, bitching about me, trying to make me look bad to management etc. it's clear they want it back to how it was with just the two of them. Nothing is going to change is it? My anxiety and stress is through the roof. I dread going in, my whole life is consumed by it. Shall I go off sick? I can't afford to just leave and not be paid

I did actually hand my notice in after the disciplinary as I felt like nothing had been resolved and nothing had changed. The head teacher asked me to reconsider and says to please trust the process and that it will get better for me. 5 months later and nothing has changed, at all.

I’d go back and see the head then.

Ask what happens in the process to address them telling people there had been parental complaints about you.

Sorry you're going through this OP, it does sound awful. But either you're well enough to work through it, or you're not. Mental ill health is not a choice and speaking of it in such a way (by most people on the thread) only serves to stigmatise people with these diagnoses as snowflakes or doing it as a lifestyle choice 🙄

Can you hand your notice in and switch to supply until you find something? Would knowing you're out of there help you face going in for the remaining time? If not, and your mental health is really suffering, then speak to your gp. It may be that anti-depressants will help you see it through, or they may think you need the pressure off and sign you off. In which case, as you recover, you can find alternative work. When I've been signed off, my symptoms were such that I was too unwell to work or find alternatives, until I'd recovered sufficiently well. It wasn't a choice.

I didn't mean that to sound unsympathetic- it does sound really stressful and I wouldn't think badly of you for going off sick, if that's what you need - you need to work it out with a Dr what is best for your mental health. None of us here can diagnose and only you know what symptoms you're having. All I can say is that if your school isn't dealing with the issues properly, it will highly likely have negative effects on your mental health, which justifiably might lead to needing time off. You may even have a case for constructive dismissal if they aren't supporting you properly. I really do hope you find a way through.

I went to work today. I work weds Thurs and Fridays. I am greeted by an LSA telling me that one of the lovely ladies I work with has told everyone how I'd had a complaint made about me from a parent because of my conduct in class! Nothing of the sort has happened, yet another way to completely trash my reputation. I'm at the end of my tether now.

You need to speak to the Head OP, bullying is awful. And look for another job. There's nothing worse than hating where you work. I've been there!!

Hi OP my moment today was that I’m covering a class just now 3 days a week have been for weeks. The DHT, the teacher who is in 2 days a week, classroom assistant and another DHT had a meeting about behaviour and I wasn’t invited. I was outside in the playground with the children! This was after I was assaulted last week too. I am made to feel invisible, told absolutely nothing by management now.

We are a non compulsory subject so she taught what she could in her part time hours. Was a nice easy life. Then I came along and they decided to expand the dept so we could a lot more classes spanning the entire week. It's created more work for her and taken away her nice easy role where she just got left to get on with it.

Just reading back through - if management have decided they want to expand, there's a business case in doing that and they will want it to succeed. The previous status quo has gone! If you go, they will want to replace you as they'll have targets and responsibilities to meet. The other two will still have to deal with it, whether it's you or someone else. I'd like to think if they're faced with losing someone from the team, they'd rather it wasn't someone who was motivated by the expansion. Hence they've persuaded you to stay once already. You may get more support than you think in raising another complaint.

rollonretirementfgs · 29/02/2024 06:55

Yes you're right, they would definitely replace me rather than go back to how it was before. However the other teacher is very good at her job and is an excellent brown noser. I don't think k they'd be happy to lose her either.
