Nicer houseshare Vs my own place?

I take home about £1680 net (37h per week) can be up to £1900 with consistent overtime.
I am hoping to save to buy my own place eventually, my parents have offered to help towards the deposit which is very generous, but I want to save as much as I can.
I'm in Merseyside so prices aren't that high, and I'm honestly looking for something in the region of 70-80k which you can certainly get around here.
Anyway I'm currently in a houseshare which was a mistake, not sure whether to go for a nicer houseshare or just rent a flat alone.
It's going to be at least a year before I save up if not more. I've seen an en suite room which is much better than I currently have, it'll be less than a third of my base take home pay without overtime too. Or for an extra couple of hundred I could get a small studio/1 bed flat.
I don't under any circumstances want to share a bathroom again with strangers.
Just wondered whether people thought I should go for a nicer houseshare and still be able to save, or pay a bit more for my own place?

Go for your own place unless you can share with people you know and can manage to live with.

From the title my immediate reaction was own place - other people are the worst!

But having read the whole post I think in your position I would go for the flat share with the en-suite, redouble the saving efforts and deal with it for a year to 18 months.

It's really a gamble though. If you get a house share where people are basically clean and keep to themselves it'll be fine - but if you have loud/selfish/messy people it could be hell! Hopefully a nicer more expensive place it more likely to bring in nicer people? And at least either way you'd have our own bathroom!

Your own place. Nothing beats it.

Your own place.

I hated house sharing as a student and couldn't do it again.

I’d go for flat share with en-suite, but interview and check the place and people over first.

your goal is to save money, with an en-suite it will be easier to keep to yourself

I would try another house share with en suitr- I presume you don't have to give much notice if it doesn't work out.

You don’t like sharing a bathroom, how about kitchen? I’d be tempted to go for the house share so I could buy quicker, but I never liked sharing a kitchen

Backtolife14 · 27/02/2024 17:00

Thanks everyone. I don't mind sharing the kitchen as much as I'm not a huge cook as such, but definitely not the bathroom again.
I'll sleep on it.

Ensuite room in house share.

House sharing should keep council tax and other bills lower so you can save more quickly and buy quicker.

Nothing beats your own place. However, location when you are living on your own matters.

Would you consider being a tenant of a live in landlord? More likely to be just the two of you and less of the downsides of a house of multiple occupancy type house share.
