To not wanna get it pierced again?

TLDR: how can I reopen my nose piercing - it's half closed from the back.

I first pierced my nose at 15. My mother promptly removed it.
Subsequently I had it done (badly using piercing gun) multiple times. Probably 10. Possibly more. It was only a fiver and I was young and stupid. It would always go wrong, my skin even healed over the piercing a few times.

Finally I got it done in Camden Town and they used a needle and an extra long / thick bar so when it swelled up it didn't get sucked into my nose as it had previously. It's been in maybe 6 years no problem.

Three days ago it some how untwisted and fell out. The hole looked fine and healed so I thought wow- time to finally try a hoop! The hoop came today and wouldn't go in. The back has begun to heal and even with the other one it won't push through! Am I being chicken? Do I just shove and hope for the best? I've been wondering if perhaps (same hole used each time) perhaps it went in somewhere different at the back.
How do I reopen it without having to get re pierced? I really can't be bothered to ever do it again but equally I really like having my nose pierced and always have.

As you can see I am committed to having it done so it's not as simple as just give up. It's been a 20 odd year journey and I don't feel like quitting yet.

I hadn't worn mine for years and the front was still open but inside healed. I just shoved. It remained perfectly OK and I've worn a hoop ever since!

WhippetSnappet · 26/02/2024 18:52

You could probably pick the skin at the back where it’s healed to reopen it. Otherwise a quick and firm shove with a thin stud earring will open it enough to hopefully get a hoop through!
just make sure everything is sterilised first!

Ahhh okay. So if I boil an old earring use a bit of surgical sprit I could be okay again?

THANK YOU!

I had an ear piercing that I left without jewelry for several years. I managed to wiggle in an earring with some patience and fortitude after a long warm shower. There was no bleeding or anything. The hole was definitely still there, just not quite cooperative.

of course, I’m a middle aged woman. If my teenager tried to do something that stupid, I would yell at her. But from your description, I’m assuming you have enough years on you to decide when to stop.

I've reopened a few times by just taking Mt time twisting it in until it finally goes through.

LunaNorth · 26/02/2024 18:57

I did it with a magnifying mirror, an earring and gritted teeth.

Use wound wash on it afterwards.

Tomorrow once little one is safely at nursery I am going to take the plunge 😆

As a previous pp said, use a stud earring with a fairly thin post and shove. If you stick a finger up your nostril you'll be able to feel the post as you push so you'll be able to position it. It's likely to be just a thin membrane you'll be piercing. It might sting a bit initially but grit your teeth and go for it 😬

Thingsthatgo · 26/02/2024 19:00

Have you still got any of your earrings from when you had your ears pierced? I still have some that have a sharp end that would do the trick nicely. Maybe numb it first with some ice!

britneyisfree · 26/02/2024 19:01

@Thingsthatgo no, that was a loooooong time ago.

I've previously used a cleaned needle to reopen it rather than an earring as needles have a sharp rather than blunt end, so seemed less painful.

britneyisfree · 26/02/2024 19:05

@Allthewallsarewhite where would I get a needle?!

I'm guessing the chemist but would they sell me one or think I'm being a bit odd

I feel like your poor nose is begging to be left alone now

@Allthewallsarewhite where would I get a needle?!

I just always have a few little mini sewing kits with needles lying around and assumed everyone did, but maybe it's just me 😂

britneyisfree · 26/02/2024 19:09

@Allthewallsarewhite hahahaha I didn't even think of that!!! Looks like this will be easier than I thought

Another advocate for shoving it through! I had a cartilage piercing in my ear that healed at the back. Used a stud with a long, thin post, put my finger at the back so I could feel the pressure from the post (to check it was at the correct angle) and then pushed. It was fine - no bleeding.

swapcicles · 26/02/2024 19:13

Hoops are a bugger to get through a previously normal piercing as due to the shape it just won't go easily through the hole.
I've just managed to get a hoop through my helix and that was tough even though it had only been out a matter of minutes, it just wanted to go the wrong way!

Lost019 · 26/02/2024 21:06

Rings are usually a slightly thicker gauge and usually the hole on the outside of your nose tends to have a bit more give than the inside, caused from the movement of the bar.

I had a thin nose stud and bought a ring. I forced it through mine to stretch the hole. It honestly hurt so much but I was 16 and daft 🥴

Still have it in and all good now but I would go back to a professional rather than do it again!
