No ring of fire

Bramblecrumble22 · 26/02/2024 11:19

Am I the only one who had no ring of fire giving birth without an epidural.

For context second vaginal birth, first epidural so also no ring of fire. Felt contractions pain in my back and abdomen, had codine. Used gas and air. I felt the movement but no burning. I was shocked when they said that I had 2 minors tears as the baby's left had came out on his face. He also got a tiny scratch by his ear.

Iabu ring of fire was very real
Ianbu I also didn't have any burning during crowning.

I had the ring of fire with an epidural. Unfortunately

OldTinHat · 26/02/2024 11:35

No epidural, no burn, episiotomy with DC1, tore naturally with DC2.

PleaseletitbeSpring · 26/02/2024 11:52

3DC and never had a ring of fire. I never had a desire to push either.

milesmachine · 26/02/2024 11:56

Sorry for my stupid question but what is the ring of fire? Pressure you're talking bottom?

milesmachine · 26/02/2024 11:56

*presume

TallulahBetty · 26/02/2024 11:57

Didn't have it, but DD came out in 2 pushes, so

Do babies come out of the bottom?

Hupling · 26/02/2024 11:58

I think the contractions were so painful I couldn’t tell what pain was where. I don’t recall a fire feeling.

Bramblecrumble22 · 26/02/2024 11:58

I learnt about it in NCT as a burning in the vagina when crowning. I didn't get that.

Funnily enough, it did feel like baby was coming out of my bottom. Got pain there, like a constipated po. Lol

@TallulahBetty assume you were one of the lucky ones who didn't shit yourself when giving birth?

I've never heard that expression. Gave birth twice, it hurt like fuck, I wasn't really thinking specifically about what sort of pain it was!

Strokethefurrywall · 26/02/2024 12:04

I didn't feel it with either and I didn't have any drugs with DS1.
Just feel like I was trying to shit a log- I even remember feeling the OBGYN giving me an episiotomy but don't remember it being "pain".

I didn't have any urge to push either, and I couldn't engage my butt muscles to push.

Had epidural with DS2 and didn't feel it then either, I just remember feeling him coming out and moving through my body.

Moier · 26/02/2024 12:05

Never ever ever heard of it.
We were not given a choice of c section or epidural unless a medical problem. Both mine were born with just gas and air.. l actually welcomed the bit of pain because l knew l was giving birth to a new life.
First l had episiotomy she was 6 pound. 11 hours start to finish.
Second 6 pound 13.. 7 hours start to finish.

Rosestulips · 26/02/2024 12:06

I didn’t even get a sensation to push never mind ring of fire. My girl was well and truly stuck and needed forceps

Well done !! FYI I've given birth vaginally and two sections, laboured 3 times and felt lots of pain with all of them !!

Poniesandpigs · 26/02/2024 12:09

2 smaller dc (5lb and 6lb) I didn’t have it.

8lb bruiser did though…horrible!

I felt my pelvis almost breaking in half with each one though.

NinaPersson · 26/02/2024 12:13

1 csection 1 VBAC.

VBAC needed forceps, both times baby was delivered in theatre and I had a spinal block so no pain on delivery. Plenty of pain leading up to it though.

mitogoshi · 26/02/2024 12:13

Never heard of that expression! Is it a modern one. Gave birth without pain relief to mine, and no, didn't hurt much, certainly no burning. Didn't need stitches either. We are all different so you cannot generalise what it will be like for another woman

BuffaloCauliflower · 26/02/2024 12:16

I’ve given birth twice with just TENS machine and gas and air and I didn’t feel this either time. I also found I felt my contraction mainly in my back and very low down both times despite neither baby being back to back. Never felt my whole bump tighten either which others (and my hypnobirthing course) have described.

TheOriginalEmu · 26/02/2024 12:18

I never had it in 4 births. Including my twins. I also never tore particularly during labour, I had one stitch with my first and that was it.
Then I had a bartholin gland removed and that required ‘I stopped counting at 100, maybe 350 if I’m guessing’ stitches. And my sympathy for new mothers with stitches skyrocketed.

Bramblecrumble22 · 26/02/2024 12:22

@BuffaloCauliflower yes I got the same sensations.

ItsallIeverwanted · 26/02/2024 12:24

@Hupling same, lots of pain, no idea where it was all coming from, didn't have this thing either, but that's because I couldn't say where one pain started and the other finished! My second dd threw herself into the world with two pushes, so I can't say I was thinking about the ring of fire, and the first had to be dragged out by ventouse after 3 days after an episiotomy so that was the least of my worries!

TheGoogleMum · 26/02/2024 12:54

Yeah a bit but the whole thing hurts so it wasn't much different than the pain I was already feeling just vagina opening specific. I had minor tears both times I've given birth (2nd and 1st degree)
