To ask for help re my thinning hair

Desperate help needed!

I'm late 20s and my hair is so thin it is untrue. It's always been thin but it's a joke now.

I've been to the hairdresser who blamed in on DS who was born 5 years ago and just said I'd need to live with it!

So my plea is does anyone at all have any products or tricks to get my hair thicker? I'm using Aussie volume shampoo and conditioner but it isn't doing much!

Any help would be much appreciated!

Have you had any recent blood tests? Even if iron is in the lower range of normal it can mean thinning hair, as can lowish B12/folate and vitamin d.

If everything is fine, bumble and bumble thickening spray works well. I spray it on after washing my hair in the evening, then just leave it to dry. I have better volume when I get up in the morning.

I found Regaine for thinning hair (peri menopausal) really good but I'm not sure if it works for younger women.

Iron supplements

Biotin supplements and Regaine (minoxidil) worked for my friend who had hair thinning (telogen effluvium) after having covid. It took about 3-6 months but her hair is lovely and thick now.

Bioxsine and nonogen for women is excellent, it thickens what you have and stops further shedding.

I take biotin, use mielle oil, a hair growth oil on my roots and coconut oil on my ends once a week and wash my hair once a week but do two shampoos to the roots, once conditioner on the ends, hair is thickening up and finally in better condition after having my son but I do also blame bleaching

If your hair is getting thinner, go to a good dermatologist or trichologist, if you can afford it (Dr David Fenton in London is probably the best), who will do blood tests to diagnose the cause. You may well need to take nutritional supplements but without the blood tests you won't know what you're short of. If you can't afford to see a dermatologist, go to your GP and ask for blood tests to get all your mineral and vitamin levels checked – remember that for hair growth you need to be at the top of the scale for each one not the lower end, because hair is not a priority for your body. So if you're at the low end of what's acceptable for iron, for example, you need to take iron tablets.

The only thing likely to prevent hair loss is Minoxidil, sold in the UK as Regaine. It's available in 2 per cent strength for women; 5 per cent strength for men. Use the 5 per cent strength - it's fine for women. It has saved my hair. It will slow down/stop the hair loss or even make it grow back

To give the appearance of thicker hair, John Frieda and Philip Kingsley products are good. Also Bed Head Queen for a Day. And highlights swell the hairshaft which also makes it look thicker, so get them if your hair is the right type.

Hope you can get it sorted, @foxredlab101 . I know how miserable it can be. xx
