To not get towel radiators?

How do you actually hang your towels on towel radiators/heated towel rails? I mean like the thin vertical type ones.

I need to buy one for a bathroom renovation but I can't imagine how they actually look with a family of 5s worth of towels on them?

Can anyone send me a picture of theirs for illustrative purposes as when you go on the retailers websites they don't have any towels on them and look very stylish.

We don't hang five on them, only two or three. DH and I hang ours there, then we have small airers that hook over radiators in the DC's rooms for theirs. It was installed more as a form of heating than anything as the bathroom when we moved in (1930s semi) didn't have any form of heat.

So the compromise is that if you get a heated rail that heats a lot then it won't hang a lot.
I got one that is quite spaced out between rails as I found with the existing one my teens did not hang the towels but just stuffed and they fell off. So the wider gaps between each rail was better. But it doesn't give off as much heat obvs.

Either way there is no single rail that will hold a family worth of towels. I have never managed to get more than 2 persons worth maybe 3 at a pinch. One draped at each end and one in the middle. If it was v tall u could possibly get another lower down.

But if the towel rail isn't on and its not hot (spring autumn) then they won't dry. I'd have one towel rail and then hang lots of hooks or other rails as well

They’re rubbish at actually heating a room. When I redo my bathroom I’ll get a normal radiator again.

Ilovegoldies · 25/02/2024 15:43

Don't bother. They are shit. My bathroom us freezing.

I have one but the towels are too bulky to fold properly on the rail , we dont use it to heat the bathroom either as we aren’t in the bathroom long enough to need the it heated. Unfortunately it’s a little rusty too.

We have one like this with the open ends making the kids much more likely to stuff a towel in sensibly!
It also heats the room rather well, but it's a fairly small bathroom.

We have an ok one does the trick but it seems out of place as the rest of the house has designer rad - the one in your link is nice, we may change ours

We have a tiny bathroom and the towel rail can get super hot so it easily heats the room up.

It's not a huge towel rail though given the small room size, we leave our hand towel on the top of it permanently and then the bottom is the bath towel for whoever is getting washed at that time. Or it can fit the kids two small towels on at once there when they're in the bath together.

Caspianberg · 25/02/2024 16:06

You don’t store you towels on it.
I just add the one towel I’m about to use after bath or shower so it warms nicely ready. Then towels are hung on hooks.

If you cover the towel heater constantly it wont heat the room

Createausername1970 · 25/02/2024 16:22

I have one. It has the current hand towel on it, Damp bath towels dry off in the airing cupboard - or on my adult son's floor, but that's his choice.

Once they are dry, and if I remember in the evening as part of my bedtime routine, I get the dried ones out of the airing cupboard, fold them and put them over the foot board of the bed so they are availability in the morning. If I forget, we collect them from the airing cupboard on the way to the bathroom. DH and I use our bath towels two or three times before they go in the laundry basket.

It does heat the bathroom.

I also hang damp cloths on it after I have dried the shower door. They are dry for the next day.

We've got 3 bathrooms all with these ladder towels rails as their sole source of heating. They heat the rooms absolutely fine. Those saying they don't must either have massive bathrooms or very small towel rails. We only need to hang 2 towels on each one so it works fine for us.

RM2013 · 25/02/2024 16:26

We have one in main bathroom and en suite and I just put a hand towel on them. Bath towels are hung up on a hook in the en-suite and the kids tend to keep theirs in their rooms - we’ve got those radiator airer things that clip over the radiator so the towels dry better on there. I actually find the towel radiator kicks off less heat than a conventional radiator- they were here when we moved in

I have a similar one got it from here as they have all sort of narrow heated towel rail radiators they also have black colour as well as chrome, it is so easy to hang on to the wall as they come with wall bracket but you will need to order Valve separately and it is great for small bathrooms it does not take so much space

200mm Wide Chrome Towel Radiators

200mm Wide Chrome Towel Radiators

200mm wide narrow chrome towel rail radiator is an excellent choice. These narrow 200mm wide towel radiators not only save space but also provide efficient towel warming and room heating.

Ours is really good, it holds 3 body towels and my hair towel aswell as the hand towel. The DDs have a separate bathroom and theirs just has towels on it and is half the height of ours. Our one is virtually floor to ceiling, 60cm wide and heats our small bathroom just fine plus dries our towels quickly.

Laffydaffy · 28/09/2025 19:41

I dry the towels on it and then put the towels on a towel rack. We also use smaller towels in winter.

KellySeveride · 28/09/2025 19:46

We have this one. Can get 3 bath sheets on it and it doesn’t half kick out some heat.
