Shit pay rises but bosses driving brand new cars

I know they take the risk but I really am sick of the powers that be giving shit (well below inflation) pay rises, telling us there’s slim pickings whilst hiking our hourly rates and driving brand new range rovers/astons

then extending their homes - spaffing 2k on dining chairs a year ago, only to be selling them now as they are “changing the style”

im probably just bitter but it really does fuck me off

Start looking for a new job.

And when you eventually leave tell them why.

stayathomer · 25/02/2024 14:33

For all you know they buy everything on credit and one day it will all catch up to them 😉 I agree to start looking for a different job. Hope it gets better for you op x

hottchocolate · 25/02/2024 14:33

I agree with PP

Find another job

but you don't know how they afford their extension etc

Princessfluffy · 25/02/2024 14:34

Not unreasonable imo to feel bitter that there is such a huge and ever widening gap between rich and poor.

DaughterNo2 · 25/02/2024 14:34

Probably the cars are an off set against tax

Spirallingdownwards · 25/02/2024 14:34

Cars may not be costing any more if they are leased too. Perhaps their partners have well paid jobs. Sometimes that is the case.

Ejecteject · 25/02/2024 14:35

They def aren’t on credit. Major profits but it just makes me sad and bitter. And don’t get my started on the egos

The wife also works for the company and is paid ok but not huge amounts - it’s all him.

Look up their accounts on Companies House. It will give the figures for highest paid directors.

The cars may well be leased through the business but the money still needs to be there to pay for them.

Wizzytimehfv · 25/02/2024 14:58

My boss does this, annoying!

CheekyWasp · 25/02/2024 15:09

You're not the only one miffed by this.

I don't know your employers case and as the others have said you don't know how they are financing the expensive cars but I'd say its definitely something to do with the company.

Relative of mine was in the same situation when he overheard the boss announcing (in Sept or so) they were buying themselves an expensive new car in January even though he and the other workers got miserable bonus/pay rises over the years. So he decided immediately to get another job and put in his notice and left in December. He then heard from former co workers in January that the boss did not get a new car and still had their old car and confided to one of them that my relative was his "best employee" and he was in shock he left unexpectedly! The boss was struggling to get replacement worker to do anything as good as work as him.

Yes I'd be miffed in the same situation especially when the pay rise is miserable.

NeverForgetYourDreams · 25/02/2024 15:11

You could do the same. Take the risk and start up your own business and be the ‘boss’ and have the benefits that come with the initial risk

well to disagree the OP is saying the employers are reaping the benefits of owning the business but are mean to the employees with pay rises & bonus all the while rubbing their noses in it with expensive cars.

Ejecteject · 25/02/2024 15:22

Yep, it’s the rubbing noses which is the issue. Not to then mention “the flights for our holiday alone cost 25k”.

Once worked for someone like this. Had to listen to him and my boss (no doubt on a massive salary himself, considering the company he worked for before) about buying new sports cars to “race around” a bit and how it’s not worth selling the house he inherited as it’s only peanuts (big house in very expensive part of the country). I had worked my bottom off, done sone very high-profile things which allowed them to bid for a lot more work - and got a pay rise of 2% and was told I should be happy. I left not long after, after I handed my notice in they were planning to replace my role with three different ones as I did so much.

I really don’t care how much the bosses earn, as long as they pay and treat their staff fairly.

unsync · 25/02/2024 18:02

I worked for a company like this in a previous life. The company subsidised the owner's lifestyle, but then they'd complain that the company never made much of a profit. Holidays, travel, nice restaurants, clothes, offspring's wedding, furniture, lots of Champagne etc etc all put through the books.

The VAT inspection was fun though, we were sent to the house to retrieve stuff and then had to distribute it around the office withouth the guy from HMRC seeing! Company went bust eventually. I was long gone by then though. Can't say I was surprised.

Not if it's a small company, which it probably is.
