I'm at the end of my PTA parent days but agreed to help out with an upcoming raffle evening for my DD school. It's all set up on a system which is cheap but a bit cumbersome and fiddly. They've done it for years and I've helped with this in the past so said I could do this for a final time. I also offered to train up anybody/ all people interested as the system is used a lot by the PTA but not many individuals have the 'training'. Makes it sound like a piece of high tec precision engineering equipment. It isn't. Its just fiddly and most parents can't be bothered to do a deep dive into the back end of it all.

Anyway. I've done this raffle set up for a few years and I know what and how to do as efficiently as possible. Unfortunately I am being 'managed' by a new parent who is questioning my every move and demanding levels of reporting that are just not necessary. Think busy work transferring, cross checking and re checking data across multiple separate spreadsheets. Data which is recorded and up to date on the PTA computer system already. I have refused and so they are doing this and incidentally mucking up some stuff on the system which results in more messages from them to me.

I can't block their messages because I need to let them know (periodically) where everything is at. But it is driving me INSANE. I fear that when I meet them face to face at the event I might do or say something that I regret. Is intense aggravation by an overly keen but slightly dim fellow volunteer an admissible offence in a court of law?

It’s a shame you’ll have to step down now and leave new parent to it.

IFollowRivers · 25/02/2024 11:53

I would but I am not the sort of person to throw my toys out of the pram in public. If I say I will do something then I do it. But it is reaaaaaly stretching my patience.

Who has given her access to enable her to muck things up? Maybe you could insist that while you're responsible for the thing, nobody else has access to it?

Stickyricepudding · 25/02/2024 11:55

Tell the head of PTA that you're surplus to requirements because the new person is so helpful. Leave them to fuck it up big time.

She either winds her neck in or you walk away.

PuppyMonkey · 25/02/2024 11:56

But new person has voluntarily taken the task over, just tell people you were happy to let them do it and step down. Move on with your life.

Yes, definitely mitigating circumstances and I'm sure Rob Rinder would represent you! I'll provide an alibi and/or character reference if you like 😇

SamphiretheTervosaurReturneth · 25/02/2024 12:17

You are going to have to be blunt.

Tell her she is fucking things up and needs to listen rather than tell you anything.

Offer her some training if you feel generous and tell her you won't be fixing anything she breaks any more.

She can shut up and put her learning head on or you will have to consider just walking away!

Sometimes being polite, not explaining to someone how they are fucking things up only makes the problem worse

FourLeggedBuckers · 25/02/2024 12:22

No jury in the land would convict you.

I do sympathise with the helpful dimwit though. I’m sure I’ve been on both sides of this situation 😂

Thank you all. I was overthinking it. I'll just pull out. The important part is done now anyway. It's just the post busywork eff ups.
