To feel let down by doctor and now seriously worried

Iv been reporting multiple health issues to my doc spanning over the past few years

I was going through my nhs records and my last blood test showed this EGFR result as 78 which after some research indicates early kidney disease.

in addition my Serum creatinine level is 81 just below the cut off for normal range

I also had low iron and vitamin D.

no one has ever discussed this with me and now im
worried I have kidney disease? Am I over reacting or getting this wrong. It seems like I do have early kidney disease and the dr has not told me

Everyone's egfr slowly declines as we get older-that is normal. If your other results are okay you do not have kidney disease. Your creatinine is in the normal range. You are reading your results but you are not a doctor so you're not reading them in the correct context. Your GP hasn't told you that you have kidney disease because you don't have kidney disease.

AnnaMagnani · 24/02/2024 23:47

Nobody would take any action over that eGFR.

Your doctor has your full set of results and is trained to advise you on the results.

KrisAkabusi · 25/02/2024 00:18

They are both in the normal range. I wouldn't expect a doctor to comment.

LunaTheCat · 25/02/2024 00:25

After age 30 the eGFR falls by ml per minute.

EliflurtleAndTheInfiniteMadness · 25/02/2024 00:42

What other symptoms and health issues have you had? I wouldn't be concerned about this unless there's a bigger context. One low result doesn't necessarily mean anything. Low vitamin D and low iron are fairly common.

Itstime2023 · 25/02/2024 22:26

While it's great we can have access to our records nowadays, as others have said, If you are not trained to read results and understand them in the wider context it can get confusing. I do wonder if in the long run this is going to cause more trouble than good.

Thank you everyone I feel less worried now! From Google it seems I have early kidney disease?
I have no other symptoms I am tired (but also obese and only tired after I eat a lot)
I did have 2 kidney infections in one year I was told that’s a water infection
I am seriously obese (23 stone) and I’m going to start a weight loss programme but sometimes struggle to understand how I can be this fat with no after effects

Are these actually multiple health conditions, or multiple anxieties you have had.

Good luck with the weight loss programme. Nothing seems to work for me!

MelSilver · 25/02/2024 23:58

How old are you?

Tary44 · 26/02/2024 00:51

Results may flag as being outside the typical range but are usually interpreted on an individual basis, based on characteristics such as age, sex, pregnancy and also symptoms, e.g. if you have low iron levels you may be treated but if they’re within a borderline range might only be treated if your also symptomatic

Stop googling! It's only feeding your anxiety. If your doctor was concerned he would have raised it. You are NOT qualified to interpret these results. Neither are most of the people who comment on medical issues on the internet. Google is not a doctor.
