…to ask how to restore these?

Posting here for traffic.
Have a couple of pairs of ‘silver coloured’ metal earrings from my Goth days in the early 90’s. Now they are dull and tarnished. I believe they are not silver so silver polish will not restore them. Is there a way to re coat them or something to bring back the shine? Help me relive my youth Mumsnetters.

A chrome paint pen.

Have you actually tried metal polish? Tarnish is just an oxide coating from where the metal reacts with the air, so a chemical polish may work regardless of the metallic composition.

I want to see a photo of your goth days earrings 😁

Chrome cleaning fluid but it's extremely difficult to buy most antique shops in Wells Somerset may
Sell that kind of thing otherwise try Vinted it's a second hand store app those are also popping up.

My other guess is take it to a well
Known local antique store and they'll quote you a price for cleaning silver Jewellery although sometimes this cost can increase to £40-£50
it's tough to clean silver as this rusts extremely quickly
In bad rainy weather.

No idea, but this made me think of my favourite earrings during my gothy teen days - huge silver bird claws clutching orbs. My ears bled every time I wore them because they were so heavy and the hook was far too thin. Loved them! I don't think they made it through multiple house moves :(

This is why I want to restore them - so much has been lost along the way but these have stayed with me and I just want to wear them again.

I have read about boiling the items in hot water with balls of tinfoil. Not sure if it only works with genuine silver though

You could probably take them to a jewellers and ask for them to be rhodium plated, even if they aren’t real silver.
