BarrelOfOtters · 24/02/2024 09:03

Is it getting worse? People who miss the point completely or make stuff up…

’my kids aren’t in school yet so we are going on holiday i term time’.

poster…’what about the school fine?:

etc etc

OP posts:
Niknakk · 24/02/2024 09:08

Also a severe lack of spelling and punctuation....

Malarandras · 24/02/2024 09:12

And a complete lack of understanding of neurodiversity…

But to the point raised in the OP, I notice this all the time. I sometimes go back and read the OP in a thread to check I’ve read it correctly!

greleo · 24/02/2024 09:13

I think they do it on purpose to be antagonistic

TrumpetOfTheMatriarchy · 24/02/2024 09:14

I'm not sure I understand what you mean....

Figgygal · 24/02/2024 09:15

Utterly ridiculous amounts of projection, obsession over irrelevant details rather what the op is asking and whatiffery too.

greleo · 24/02/2024 09:16

I also find people do it in real life too!
It's a great way to get the person they're speaking to flustered and irritated (then criticise them for being wound up) also helps them to divert the conversation away from the perfectly good point the person is usually making

PinkMildred · 24/02/2024 09:16

I honestly think a lot of people only read the title or the first para of the OP. It is bizarre to me. read the bloody thread!

Queijo · 24/02/2024 09:17

The amount of people that don’t rtft and then comment absolute shite drives me up the wall. It takes seconds to read the latest update!

RufustheFactualReindeer · 24/02/2024 09:19

Its the making stuff up bit that amazes me, some people have such vivid imaginations and their ‘replies’ to the OP includes stuff that the OP didn’t say stated as fact

TempleOfBloom · 24/02/2024 09:27

Yes, major failures to grasp the relevant point. Or understand equivalences. E.g a mother on maternity leave / undertaking any weekday childcare who pays living costs pro rata is not the same as a man who chooses to work p/t in order to support his gaming habit expecting to pay pro rata with his F/t employed partner who is struggling!

And people who quote the entire multi paragraph OP…

Soontobe60 · 24/02/2024 09:29

I find the number of people who post about other peoples comprehension skills a bit tedious. I mean, it’s an internet chat room, not an A Level English exam 😂

Yeah, someone kept asking an OP the other day when the incident happened. I couldn’t understand what the relevance was!

I know! The number of OPs that have clearly been fabricated with such ridiculous nonsense! Oh, and the ‘drip feed’!!!
Plus, what’s with the excessive use of apostrophes???

That's what I thought when I read the OP!!

It's only bloody mumsnet! Nothing special

Yes, I've seen this too. Sometimes I've thought I must have not seen posts as people have made such assumptions with no evidence.

Also, the excessive use of exclamation and question marks 😀

Why is it a surprise? The average reading age in the UK is 9. You have to accept that a whole lot of people aren’t going to comprehend written information.

TBH, I’m not sure someone with a reading age of 9 is the target demographic on here - as most of those will actually be actual children. Just a guess though…

baileybrosbuildingandloan · 24/02/2024 09:47

PPs please note- the OP means 'what they comprehend' not their writing skills in High school!

Clearly you didn't comprehend...

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/02/2024 09:47

Posters who leap right in with a "You have a DH problem. He needs to speak to his Mother" .
Because the OP cannot have a conversation adult-to-adult with her MIL

And yes I know you don't start a sentence with Because Wink

This. Especially in AIBU. Its always been like that which doesn't make it any less shitty.

Why are they not in nursery?

That's not fair to people who do have kids in school.

igivein · 24/02/2024 10:04

Just this morning, thread title: Not divorced yet and he’s had a stroke.

(if you read this OP from that thread, I’m really sorry about the situation you’re in, you sound like a wonderful, caring person)

poster: you’re divorced so it’s nothing to do with you.

Makes me wonder how some people manage to get through life at all!
