To be worrying myself sick? (Photo attached)

Mole related.

I’ve had a freckle/mole/lesion for a while now.

I think it started off as a freckle, however due to its position I haven’t really noticed much. It’s sort of on my shoulder blade.

First noticed it about 5/6 months ago when it was itchy and randomly bleeding. Due to its position I completely forgot about it to be honest. No sensation to it after the itchy period.

However this morning, DH asked me what an earth was on my back.

Upon inspection, the same once itchy spot has now grown in size, changed colour, and now has a purplish ring around it.

Rang GP where a nurse prac rang back and requested photos and they have referred me to dermatology. I didn’t get a face to face appointment.

It didn’t feel right posting on the “C”
board as I may be a paranoid numpty.

Anyone happen to recognise this type of thing?

I would definitely get that checked. Better safe than sorry.

Babyroobs · 23/02/2024 22:07

I'm saying the same - get it checked asap. Dermatology definitely the best people to check it out and hopefully will see you very swiftly.

IncognitoUsername · 23/02/2024 22:08

I had similar when I was 15. They were concerned so had it removed. Very quick, just a local anaesthetic at the GP surgery. It was tested and was nothing sinister.
Hopefully the dermatologist appointment comes through soon.

SparklyRainbowDinosaur · 23/02/2024 22:08

Anything that's changed you should definitely get checked. Look up ABCDE mole check.

For what it's worth I've had a few scary looking ones that have been fine. Hope all OK.

Didimum · 23/02/2024 22:09

Does your bra strap irritate it?

PowPurry · 23/02/2024 22:09

Thanks all.

Have been referred to dermatology. Should here in a few days, apparently.

@IncognitoUsername thats reassuring.

Always best to get these things checked out. Hopefully you’ll get a dermatology appointment soon- get back in touch if you’ve not heard anything in a couple of weeks.
DH had a very suspicious looking mole which was removed and fortunately it was all clear. Good luck.

icingonthecake7 · 23/02/2024 22:12

I hope the dermatology referral was sent as a 2ww rather than a routine. If not, please chase for this to happen. It’s not paranoid at all to request urgent care when you have worrying signs. They will most likely remove it and send for histology to confirm what it is.

Best of luck OP

icingonthecake7 · 23/02/2024 22:13

2ww= 2 week wait

PowPurry · 23/02/2024 22:13

@SparklyRainbowDinosaur yes, all I’ve been doing all day. I have to admit I was ignorant, when I heard “skin cancer” my assumption was easily treated, akin to testicular etc. However I now know that’s not necessarily true.

@Didimum, I wear non irritant sports bra type bras. I’m a size 16 however small ish chested so don’t think it’s my bra. However it is in the bra area.

Not to freak you out but I would definitely want that checking on the 2 week pathway. It's probably not the worst but it's unfortunately got a few flags. Don't panic though. I have been referred 2 week pathway twice now and neither times it was the worst

GreenAppleCrumble · 23/02/2024 22:18

A close relative had a nasty-looking mole removed. It was cancer. I didn’t actually see it but I think it was pretty big and had been there a while. However, it had not spread. This was about 8 years ago. He has not had any recurrence (touch wood) or any further problems. You’re doing the right thing. Chances are it will be ok.

PowPurry · 23/02/2024 22:19

@icingonthecake7 I didn’t think to ask that. If I don’t hear anything by maybe Thursday I will chase.

I really appreciate all your words, I really thought I may be overthinking this.

A google search suggested it could be a harmless overgrowth of skin cells (I can’t remember the name).

I was thinking someone on MN was bound to have had something similar looking.

DyslexicPoster · 23/02/2024 22:19

I guess if not on 2ww that's a good sign? Hopefully you will be seen asap

PowPurry · 23/02/2024 22:24

@Universalsnail no it’s fine. It’s really spooked me so I will make a nuisance of myself if I don’t hear anything.

I’m not a sun-worshipper. Used to tan as a child but now tend to burn despite sunscreen.

@GreenAppleCrumble its a bit strange, as I was not aware of it until around 5/6 months ago when it had that itchy stage, it also bled a few times. Now however it does look
alarming.

Hi did you get this sorted? Hope you’re ok now. How long did your referral take? X

PowPurry · 13/03/2024 20:45

Hi!

I did. Was in and out in 5 minutes, he did give it a name but basically harmless! Phew!

Same here when I was 21-ish. I do think my bra was bothering it. But either way, just get it looked at. Hope it's OK.

Thank goodness
