Is this too soon to have feelings for someone?

I've known him since late October, we spoke around 6 times in person between then and before Christmas, but on a couple of those occasions we spent hours together.
From mid-December we started to talk almost daily, and continued this until around a fortnight ago. I have also seen him around 4 times since then.
We can't be together but I realised I feel something for him. Initially it was more just a certain level of interest, but from around early Jan I developed a huge crush on him and I'm trying to get over him ATM.
Anyway I feel like some sort of weirdo for having some sort of feelings for him. Obviously not in love, but infatuated to some extent.
Does this sound normal? Sometimes on here I see people saying they've been dating someone for 5 months and they're 'starting to like them ' and I think well what were you feeling the rest of the time?
Maybe I got into him too quickly? Or does this sound normal?

We've also never dated and nothing has ever happened. I feel so OTT for some reason.

Why can't you be together?

Shedoesntevengohere12 · 23/02/2024 17:08

He doesn't want to be. I wanted to date but he didn't, so I'm trying to move on even though I accept it.

Anyway that doesn't matter, but I just feel like some sort of weirdo for being into him like this.

Can you give more information on why he doesn’t want to?

is he not ready? Does he like being single?

pictoosh · 23/02/2024 17:11

Wow...as soon as a man said to me...no, don't want to date, I'd lose interest entirely. Nothing more unattractive than not finding me attractive. It's kind of essential.

Don't moon over someone who doesn't want you.

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 23/02/2024 17:11

You're not weird, some people fall in love in a minute! It's probably exacerbated by the fact that you can't have him though, that age old trope.

He simply doesn't feel the same, he only ever had the expectation of being friends apparently. So I can't change that.

No one falls 'in love' in a minute.
They may fantasise love...but that's not the same thing.

Shedoesntevengohere12 · 23/02/2024 17:13

Thank you for understanding me. I don't know what it was but something just clicked one day. I thought he was interested too but I misread it .

To be brutally honest, if you're falling for him and he doesn't even have an interest in dating you - I'd phase him out sharpish.

It's only going to lead to you being very unhappy.

I really wish I could lose interest like that 🤣

You're right, I had to. It would've felt awkward continuing to be close friends, sadly.

This. Make tough decisions to safeguard your longterm peace of mind.

Yes, absolutely. I really wish I didn't have the feelings because I feel like I've ruined a good friendship.

Yeah I think it's weird to still have feelings for someone who rejected you. Telling me they don't want me breaks the spell for me.

I understand, I can't help it though. I'd love to just switch it off. I will forget it all soon .

Same.

OttolenghiSimple · 23/02/2024 17:22

The length of time isn’t the issue. He has rejected you so I would really work on moving on rather than holding out hope. Sorry if that sounds harsh.

Oh no I'm definitely not holding out hope, I'm just questioning why I have feelings in the first place, it makes me feel like I'm too intense.

Same.

It does for me too. Thank goodness. It’s torture up until that point.

You're all lucky. It usually takes a few weeks of feeling down then I move on.

That’s a shame. The best advice I can give you is try to limit how much you think about them or how much you fantasise about what could have been.
it’s really sad when things don’t work out but you never know what the future will hold, you deserve to live that future without the what-ifs hanging over your head.

there’ll be someone just as special who is ready, soon
