Holiday to jersey uk

Hi. Shamelessly posting for traffic.
Has anyone been to Jersey Island in the UK?

I saw it last night on the apprentice and am intrigued. I'm hoping it would be cheaper than going abroad.

Would you recommend it for a family of six?

Also, what would be the best way to travel there from the midlands please?

Thankyou in advance!

We went in April 2022 in the hope that even in the context of CV19 we'd still be able to go. We had an amazing time. We stayed at the Hotel De France which had an incredible spa.

We did it all as an easyjet holiday, flying from Manchester.

We used the bus network to tour the island, all very simple.

Would highly recommend.

We stayed in a lovely hotel a few years ago that was right on a beach. I think part of the hotel had been part of a Napoleonic fort at one time.

We enjoyed Jersey very much, we also did a day trip to Guernsey. We were looking at St Malo (I think it was) as a day trip too but didn't have enough time. We went to Jersey primarily to go to the zoo as I was an avid reader of Gerald Durrell in my youth and had always wanted to visit it. We did a behind the scenes tour as well. DH is a WW2 buff, so he had lots of places to visit too.

We got married in jersey and have been 4 times now. Atlantic Hotel is fab, this is where we got married. Also stayed at the Merton with kids but in the self catering suites not the hotel. Always had good weather even in the October half term. Have ferried there with car and also flown from Gatwick with easyJet. We’d move there in a heartbeat if we could. Zoo, war tunnels, lavender farm (in season) and lots of beach activities and food!!

DinnaeFashYersel · 23/02/2024 17:47

I've been a couple of times. We fly from Edinburgh and hire a car.

Pickledprawn · 23/02/2024 17:48

If you have a decent budget Les Ormes is great for families.

faffadoodledo · 23/02/2024 17:50

We lucked out when we spent 5 days there a few years ago. Glorious blue does and sun. We did lots of walking round the spectacular coast. The monolithic concrete WW2 bunkers are spooky! Wartime history generally is v interesting. But we went as a child free couple while the children were off on school trips so I can't vouch for how family friendly it is.

KathieFerrars · 23/02/2024 17:51

Guernsey is gorgeous too and Sark also worth a day trip. You will need health insurance for Guernsey for sure so double check Jersey.

FoleyHuck · 23/02/2024 17:56

I live here and this thread makes my heart happy! As a UK resident there's a reciprocal health agreement but obviously travel insurance is important too for everything else it covers.

If you want more inspiration OP there was a lovely little series on Channel 5 last year called Jersey & Guernsey that you can still watch on catch up.

Sideorderofchips · 23/02/2024 18:06

I also live in Jersey and it's 100% worth a visit in the summer. So much to do!

Eminybob · 23/02/2024 18:23

I was born and raised in Jersey and have family there still.
I would go every year if I could as its beautiful and I'd love my DC to get to know my home land.
But sadly it's extortionate (no space for us at family and friends unfortunately) and so we spend our money where we are guaranteed the weather a bit more.
It is lovely though. Please go and enjoy 😊

cleaningandbathing · 23/02/2024 18:27

We visited last October. Flew from Edinburgh. Flights were £30 each return. Had an ok hotel and hired a car. We had a lovely time. DH and I were both there as kids. He remembers it more than I did and there was certainly enough to keep a 15 year old entertained. We really had a lovely time.

Pieceofpurplesky · 23/02/2024 18:28

I prefer Guernsey but all of the islands are magical.

Freespirit44 · 23/02/2024 19:13

I had no idea about the WW2 stuff or the museums so that's pushed me on a bit more.
I first came across it on the real housewives of Jersey TV show and thought it was stunning but then forgot all about it.
@FoleyHuck I may bump into you in the summer!!

We loved Jersey. Flew from our local airport which 20 mins from our house.
The food was lovely. Beaches..ice cream..We went to a lavender farm.it was glorious. There was a cafe that sold lavender shortbread

FoleyHuck · 23/02/2024 19:21

@Freespirit44 Chances are I'll be pushing a pram up and down the seafront between St. Helier & St. Aubin on a daily basis Grin

Clearinguptheclutter · 23/02/2024 19:24

Sorry to be pedantic but Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man are part of the British Isles. England, Scotland and Wales make up Great Britain, while the United Kingdom includes Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Jersey is a British Crown Dependency.

You don’t need a passport however. My parents have been and liked it.

wizzler · 24/02/2024 08:40

They have a church where almost all the interior is made of Lalique glass. It's just outside St Helier. I really enjoyed visiting it

We went there too last year - it was truly beautiful! Really worth a visit.

mrwalkensir · 24/02/2024 23:01

A lot of Jersey workers have to move back to the mainland when they retire. Not a cheap place to live.

Freespirit44 · 25/02/2024 09:37

If you travelled there by aeroplane, was it a choppy landing for you? I'm a nervous flyer 🤢

Having landed in Jersey I'd conservatively say 100 or more times over the past 20 years, I'd say I've had 3-4 landings that have felt a bit hairy due to wind, always in the winter and one of them on a very small aircraft from Guernsey.

My Mum is a very nervous flyer too and she's always been fine coming to visit (has flown here circa 20 times over the same 20 years).

The only thing I'd say to prepare yourself for is that due to the length of the runway here the braking can feel quite a bit harder than at other airports, but nothing to worry about!

CheesecakeandCrackers · 25/02/2024 09:50

Look at Guernsey too, we absolutely love Guernsey!

Freespirit44 · 25/02/2024 09:54

@FoleyHuck that is so reassuring thankyou!! I must say, I am a tiny bit envious of you in the fact that you actually live there. What I have seen of Jersey over the last few days (on the internet obviously!) It's stunning!!! I can't wait to go!

@CheesecakeandCrackers I'm working my way there!

One of my best holidays ever was 10 days in Jersey with my DH.
Had gone for a long weekend in Spring and wanted to go back for a longer stay so went for longer in the summer.
Stayed right by the beach and it was amazing.

As PP said, Jersey itself wasn't particularly cheap though.
