Settle a debate pls - I think Mr Benn is creepy AF but DP says not (and is slightly appalled).

OP posts:

Mr Benn was great. I can't remember anything about the shopkeeper though.

I call one of my cats saggy old cloth catpuss 🥰

Shivermetimbers13 · 20/02/2024 23:06

I've never really understood the definition of 'creepy.' I see it a lot on here, but never heard anyone mention it in real life.
Does it mean 'sinister?' But I fail to see how a TV character can be sinister in any way.

I totally understand that Jimmy Savile, and others such as Rolf Harris were 'creepy' in that they portrayed themselves as genuine guys who then turned out to be perverts, but a TV character? Not possible.

I loved Mr Benn. But I always wondered about the shopkeeper who appeared ‘as if by magic’. So how did he do it then, if it wasn’t magic?!

Yazoop · 20/02/2024 23:23

I was puzzled as I thought you were talking about the rice guy… and then remembered that’s Uncle Ben 😂

Queenofcheesesandwich · 20/02/2024 23:35

Yep I find him and his fancy dressing ways very creepy.

7catsisnotenough · 20/02/2024 23:43

Hector's House...anyone remember that?!

sprigatito · 20/02/2024 23:46

Wtaf?! Is nothing sacred? I can't imagine anything less creepy than Mr Benn. You're going to have to explain your thinking on this one OP Angry

WulfWuman · 20/02/2024 23:48

Are you talking about that episode where the costume he selected was a stripey jumper and a glove made of knives?

Because if so then yeah that was a bit much.

FictionalCharacter · 21/02/2024 00:03

How very dare you! Mr Benn is perfectly lovely.

ODFOx · 21/02/2024 00:11

YABU.
The shopkeeper, on the other hand....

crumblingschools · 21/02/2024 00:16

As if by magic -happy days

ancienticecream · 21/02/2024 00:19

YOU TAKE BACK YOUR STATEMENT, OP.

(If you couldn't tell, I love Mr Benn)

Hector's House...anyone remember that?!

I do but even as a child I thought it was a bit pants. Shonky glove puppets. Wasn't Hector a quite bossy? There was a cat in it also and another animal - a duck? It's probably been nearly 50 years since I last watched it.

Mr Benn was my favourite. I wanted to be him.

MrBenschangingroom · 21/02/2024 06:48

I actually changed my username about a week ago to ........well you can see it. I was trying to think of a good name and this was my favourite kids program when I was little. I always wished I had a changing room that I could go into and come out anywhere I wanted.

Anyway I couldn't not comment given my name!

Hoglet70 · 21/02/2024 07:06

Not as creepy as the whole cast of Bod!!!

ALongHardWinter · 21/02/2024 07:10

MrsMoastyToasty · 20/02/2024 22:57

Hamble on Play School was creepy.

Totally agree!

Hector's House...anyone remember that?!

That hare looked like road kill! What were they thinking?

ALongHardWinter · 21/02/2024 07:12

Anyone remember Tales of the Riverbank? It was my favourite. Guinea pigs and hamsters driving cars and rowing boats. 😂😂😂

Flufferblub · 21/02/2024 07:17

Wasn't there only about 12 episodes of Mr Benn?

Romeiswheretheheartis · 21/02/2024 07:19

Hoglet70 · 21/02/2024 07:12

That was a different programme - Pipkins. Hartley Hare, Pig, and Topov the monkey. They were a bit weird.

Hoglet70 · 21/02/2024 07:20

@Romeiswheretheheartis you're right! It's early lol. I couldn't think of the name of the hare. I kept thinking jam...

Do you mean Hartley Hare on Pipkins?
I really liked Hector’s House although I found the way the ladder went up a bit scary ( not sure why).

I think Freud would probably have a theory about that!

Roiesin57 · 21/02/2024 07:29

@MrsMoastyToasty and was Jemima a spoilt mean girl who always got her own way?

ODFOx · 21/02/2024 09:16

JovialNickname · 20/02/2024 22:08

Doooo do do do dooo, diddle doo doot doot doo doooo

I tried to sing along and the rhythm brought to mind 'Rhubarb and Custard' which was horrid and nowhere near as gentle and nice as Mr Ben.
