My Bespoke Room

Just moved house and am struggling with how to decorate, particularly the living room which has an odd layout (long, narrow, off centre fireplace). AIBU to consider using My Bespoke Room (or similar)? Its quite expensive for me (£450 ish) and I’m worried I’m just being sucked in my the advertising, but it’s so tempting…Anyone had any experience? Thanks!

I have no experience of interior design services but you may find Pintrest to be your friend here. And it's free!

Oh show us the floor plan, g’wan…

As you asked!

My living room is basically identical in shape and size. What furniture do you need to get in there? Is it also a dining room, or is that separate?

Mine is broken up with a large double sided bookcase which creates a snugger space near to the fireplace and stops the room looking a bit sparse.

If you have another room downstairs, I’d put a sofa either side of the fireplace and a chair at the open end, and use the other half of the room for dining table and chairs; make that your ‘best’ room and use the other room as a playroom / casual sitting room

Mines similar.
This is how it's laid out. I've made two 'zones' and used one of the sofas as sort of a separation I guess

You'll get a grey room with a little bit of racing green/navy blue/dark mustard somewhere as a "pop of colour" then persuaded to buy expensive bland stuff from wherever they are currently promoting. And it'll look very dated within 5 years.

Have a look online for interiors and take inspiration from there.

I used them in January as we extended our bathroom and need the layout completely changing as well as the decor. I thought it was a bargain for what we got.

We had 2 hour long zoom sessions with a designer, the first one we agreed a layout and colour schemes. The second one she presented 3 designs and we chose one to move forward with. She then gave us a list of everything she used, from furniture to wallpaper to accessories and you can order these by clicking through on the list.

There is another person who coordinates all your shopping - this is where they make their money as I imagine they have preferred suppliers who pay them commission but in terms of the design time and experience of the designer we were really happy. I am rubbish with colour schemes and decor though so was happy to pay an expert!

Thanks. This is all very helpful.

I have a separate kitchen/diner so this is just the living room.

I don't really want to have to buy from their suppliers, so maybe this isn't he way to go.

I haven’t heard of My Bespoke Room but we used an interior designer for our living room and it made a big difference. She gave me detailed plan with links to her suggestions for furniture etc.

We didn’t follow everything to the letter but her suggestions sometimes led us to another idea which we wouldn’t have considered. We were really pleased with the result and felt it was definitely worth the money (her fee was less than the £450 you’ve mentioned above)

Just to clarify my previous post, you don't have to buy what they suggest ( and they give you several alternatives for each item). There's nothing to stop you finding your own similar items. We went with what they suggested as they were brand we use anyway.

You can do this for free in John Lewis, it's bloody lovely. Obviously they only suggest their stuff, but there's no hard sell at all. They work with you layout, paint colours, furniture etc then they email you the links and mood boards for it all. We bought most of it, they even deliver it all for free.

I’d run some prompts through an AI image generator suggesting the kind of looks you like to get some ideas.
