To insist DP takes time off work for illness?

DP has been very ill with a chest infection for about a fortnight now, to the point that she can’t move properly because one of her ribs is either cracked or dislocated from coughing.

She went to GP and got a course of antibiotics. She got worse, not better, and went again today. More antibiotics plus steroids for her breathing. I’ve never seen her so ill and incapacitated. It’s awful.

She has worked alllllll the way through it. I’m convinced that one of the reasons she’s not got better is that she hasn’t had a proper rest to recover

I’ve picked up 100% of the domestic slack, as well as looking after her, including our kids being ill and bringing everyone away to a big family event this last weekend. My own job is suffering.

She’s planning to keep on working, including attending a big meeting, albeit remotely, this week.

She has a sort of corporate job. Reasonably high pressured but she won’t get the sack for going off sick

I think she needs to stop and get better properly, for her own benefit and the whole family’s. I feel as though we/I have suffered because all her energy has gone into work instead of getting better.

We’re both women, in case anyone reads anything gendered into this.

WIBU to put my foot down and at least strongly encourage her to take time off work?

I feel for you both! People who don't take time off when sick do not get better as quickly as they might and their performance at work.often suffers. If she took.a week off and properly rested she would probably be in a much better state. Good luck OP

My husband would never take time off either regardless of how ill he is. In fact he recently has a hip replacement and was online working from bed less than a week later, his employer told him to stop so he got the consultant to right him a fit note to return to light (effectively bed bound) duties. Very frustrating but I am not sure you can convince her to stay home if her work ethic is so strong - I know I never can!
