Going to manage a team - should I get a pay rise?

Hi,

I am due to return to work after 9months on maternity leave in a few months time. Before I went on maternity leave I used to manage no one. However, Iv been told when I return to work I’ll be managing 4 people.

Back in feb 2023 I received a 3% “performance” pay rise (everyone in the business get a 2-3% pay rise each year depending on there performance).

So, after being told I’ll be managing 4 people i asked if this would be reflected in my salary. The answer was no. And my boss felt my 3% performanace rise was enough to cover my new management role.

should I get a pay rise for managing a team?

I'd expect one, yes

I would definitely expect a rise in pay. Look for another job.

With management comes more responsibility. Yes, you should absolutely be expecting some sort of pay rise. Have they outlined exactly what their expectations are of you?

ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees · 19/02/2024 22:58

Yes.

People management is the most difficult part of a lot of jobs. It's easy if you have a good team or even a team with a good attitude (skills gaps can be worked on) but sometimes it can be really challenging.
